Circa 2008, through my company, American Sentinel Fire & Security, I installed a simple fire alarm system in a pawn shop, which we monitored, serviced and inspected for many years. Good times!
We lost the account when new building owners chose another company for service. Ouch!
A few days ago, the current owner reached out to me, said he found my phone number on some of the bottom stickers, however was surprised to have reached me. He needed fire alarm monitoring service. Words I love to hear. We arranged a date & time to meet at the location.
The day of the meeting I invited Leslie to ride along with me and create content. You see, Leslie is a content creator/photographer.
I thought it would be a great opportunity to build our business relationship with this first project… and there’s more to it, but that’s another story.
We arrived at our destination. As I met with the prospective client, Leslie was shooting video and taking pictures. The client and I filled out paperwork, signed the service agreement and I got to work.
It was an easy take over. First of all I installed it in 2008 and I brought my laptop to program it. I replaced the 3G unit with a 4G LTE communicator, and it was good to go.
While doing the work, he would ask questions. One turned out to be particularly interesting.
He asked why the owner would not call the company who’s sticker was on top first.
Made me think... so I asked him to Google the company.
He did. With a confused look on his face, he said “it doesn’t exist”.
I felt like dropping my screwdriver like a mic.
As I was testing the system, I caught Leslie peeling the previous company’s sticker from the panel cover. You see, it was on top of my old sticker. So I took the resulting video.
I still love to go out in the field and meet customers, however nowadays I also use some of my time to develop our franchise https://lnkd.in/eSRRaRJy, educate and train.
