TxDOT's Labor Day impaired driving campaign reminds motorists of the deadly risks of impaired driving and urges them to drive sober and like a Texan: kind, courteous and safe.

During Labor Day Weekend last year, a person was killed by an impaired driver every three hours. Alcohol isn't the only risk. Cannabis, cold medicine, prescription drugs and any substance that affects judgment or motor function can make driving dangerous. Texans have better options: call a rideshare, take public transit, designate a sober driver or stay where you are. The safest plan is the one made before impairment begins.

🚛 SHARE THE ROAD. SAVE LIVES. 🚗

That 18-wheeler next to you. It can’t stop on a dime — and the driver may not even know you’re there.

Every year, lives are lost because drivers don’t realize how differently big rigs handle. A few small habits from YOU can make a huge difference. 👇

🔹 Don’t Linger Beside a Truck
Hanging out next to a big rig in their blind spot? Risky move. Pass with purpose, then give them room.

🔹 Give Big Rigs Room to Move
These trucks need serious time and space to stop, speed up, and turn. Don’t cut it close.

💡 The bottom line: Be Patient. Be Aware. Be Safe.

Every one of us shares these roads — let’s make sure we all get home safely.

TRAFFIC ALERT: SH 146 Turn Lane Expansion Project
TxDOT is scheduled to begin work Tuesday, September 8, on a $4.4 million improvement project at the intersection of I-10 and SH 146.

The project will add dual left-turn lanes on SH 146 to improve traffic flow through the intersection. Initial work will take place from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. to remove curbs and part of the median north of I-10.

The overall project will include both daytime and nighttime work and is expected to be completed in fall 2027.

Drivers should watch for changing traffic conditions, allow extra travel time, and use caution in the work zone.

TxDOT says the schedule is weather permitting and subject to change.
