In addition to the day-to-day care of students through CHRISTUS School Clinics, team members are also crucial in providing trainings to school associates when necessary. At Holy Ghost Catholic School, a 12-year-old student was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. Needing a dose of insulin before lunch, one of the student’s parents was leaving work every day to come and administer it. Fabiola Piedra, the medical assistant at the school, together with her teammates trained a set group of teachers and administrators to step in for the parents. On Saturday, CHRISTUS St. Mary’s Clinic in partnership with the Archdiocese of Galveston Houston hosted their annual Back To School Clinic Day for Catholic school students and the greater community. In addition to free sports physicals provided through the clinic, the event offered free vaccinations through CHRISTUS Healthy Living Mobile Clinics and free dental exams through UT Health Dental School. 78 children received vaccinations, and 242 children received sports physicals. Thanks to our event volunteers including many of our local staff as well as volunteer physicians and associates from CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic in Tyler.

June is Men’s Health Month with the emphasis put on educating men about the importance of managing their health. When there is no health insurance, there is often one more reason to delay a routine visit.
