Workers Defense Action Fund WDAF seeks to empower working Texans to build a brighter future through political action.

Workers Defense Action Fund (501c4) was strategically established by the Workers Defense Project (WDP - 501c3) to expand legislative advocacy and voter engagement work. WDAF seeks to build a long-lasting infrastructure that will facilitate future get out the vote programs, voter education and voter registration campaigns that will of hold elected officials accountable and elect representatives that care about working family’s needs.

Living in Texas, we know how dangerous it is for construction workers. One worker dies every three days on average. This morning, at the Dallas County Commissioners Court, we urged them to pass Better Builder worker protections. Wage protections, paid rest breaks, health and safety standards, and independent worksite monitoring can save lives and ensure dignity for the workers building our city. Stay tuned to get involved and help pass Better Builder in Dallas County.

Houston members and staff joined allied organizations to commemorate International Workers' Day or May Day over the weekend. The united front rallied for an end to ICE, an end to attacks on public education, and economic justice for all working people. The mass political action served as a day of mass political action to organize the working class and build power for a general strike in 2028.

Miembros y equipo técnico de Houston se unieron a organizaciones aliadas para conmemorar el Día Internacional de los Trabajadores —o Primero de Mayo— durante el fin de semana. Este frente unido se movilizó para exigir el fin del ICE, el cese de los ataques contra la educación pública y la justicia económica para todos los trabajadores. May 1st is a day for and by workers. It's a recognition of the working class' struggle that began with the 8-hour workday and champions the fight for dignity and respect of workers across the world through actions, rallies, boycotts, strikes, and more.

For nearly 30 years, Workers Defense has an integral part in this fight in Texas and we remain steadfast in our commitment to winning fair wages, freedom from retaliation, and for the working class to be valued not only for what it produces, but for its humanity.

We join allies across the state on this May Day, International Day of Workers, and Day Without An Immigrant, to fight back against unjust policies that impact the people who build our country.

Statewide, our members and staff proudly march in recognition of the immigrant workers in Dallas (pictured above), Houston, and Austin, who build our great cities and are pillars of our communities, and demand that all who live and work in this land, our collective home, be treated with dignity and respect, and that their contributions to our society and economy be fully recognized and valued.

Today, the Austin City Council passed the "Safe to Call" resolution, which will establish a stakeholder process to reduce Class C warrants, safeguard Fourth Amendment rights, and protect victims and witnesses who call for help.

Workers Defense Action Fund joined fellow advocacy organizations, , , , , , , community members, and allies, in powerful testimony and a press conference and rally to urge the City Council to approve the resolution.

"Whether someone has been a victim of a hate crime, wage theft, or domestic violence, Workers Defense members wish for a City where they can call 9-1-1 for help and not worry if they are going to be discriminated against, harassed, or harmed because of unrelated civil issues or low-level offenses," said Austin Policy Coordinator Daniela Silva.

"By aiming to protect victims from unnecessary and unrelated arrests or detentions, the Safe to Call Resolution is a first step in reestablishing trust amongst vulnerable populations by bringing community members with lived experience to the table to co-create policies that support the safety of folks experiencing crisis and tragedy," Silva said.

Last week, the city of Dallas received a letter from Governor Abbott threatening to withhold millions of dollars in public safety grants because of a policy he claims interferes with immigration enforcement. Today, community groups, local leaders, and residents showed up to tell our city council not to give in to threats and to tell Abbott to espect Dallas' authority to govern in the best interests of its communities.
