Child Advocates We speak up for children who are lost in the foster system and guide them into a safe environment. Volunteers who make a difference in the lives of children.

There's no easy answer to the ever-present "What is Child Advocates?"

Very simply, our organization trains and supports volunteers. These volunteers are assigned to the cases of children who have been victims of life-threatening abuse or neglect and - as a result - have been placed in protective custody. Our volunteers contact caseworkers, interview parents, ensure necessary medical care, look ou

t for educational interests and make recommendations in court regarding the permanent placement of the child. They dry tears and give hugs and throw birthday parties too. Most importantly, they serve as a "constant" person for that child to count on during a very tumultuous time. Essentially, our volunteers do whatever it takes to ensure that the needs of the child are being met while that child is in care.

After being moved to a new placement, one kiddo started calling his advocate frequently, saying how bored he was and how he just wanted to talk to her.

So, when his advocate arrived for their next visit, she came prepared with two board games. His face lit up, and he was jumping with excitement! They spent the next hour playing Monopoly and laughing together. As it was time for his advocate to leave, he looked at her and said, “I’m really going to miss you.”

These little moments mean everything to a child whose world has been turned upside down. A familiar face, a listening ear and an hour spent simply being a kid can make all the difference. 🫶

What a wonderful afternoon at the Summer Luncheon! 💐 Last Thursday, we were grateful to have a room filled with both longtime supporters and guests who were learning about Child Advocates for the first time. As court-appointed advocate Karoline Walker shared, “Every child is one caring adult away from living a happier and better life.” We are so grateful to everyone who continues to support our mission. Whether you volunteer, give, attend an event or simply help spread the word, you are making a difference for our children.

✨ Save the date! ✨ Join us for the Angels of Hope Luncheon and Fashion Presentation on Wednesday, February 17, 2027, at The Revaire. We’re thrilled to honor the Houston Alumnae Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta as we gather for an afternoon of fashion, philanthropy and hope. She has been a passionate and diligent advocate for three kiddos in foster care. Child Advocates trains and supports court appointed advocates who speak up for children in foster care, helping ensure their safety, stability, and well-being. But this work doesn’t happen alone. It takes advocates, donors, partners and supporters working together to create brighter futures for children.

Goal! ⚽🏆 During the World Cup games, high schooler Ila Reed wanted to do something special to support Child Advocates, and specifically the teenagers we serve. Bringing together friends and family, Ila hosted a watch party to share more about the mission of Child Advocates.

Together, they raised an incredible $5,000! Ila used the funds to personally shop for fun items and essentials that will benefit children and teenagers in foster care. Thank you, Ila, for your generosity and support! 🫶
