✨ Team MHA Runner Spotlight ✨

Meet Cesar, who is taking on his first marathon with Team MHA! We asked him what inspires him to run and the meaning behind his miles.

“I’m running this marathon because mental health has touched my life in ways I can’t ignore. I’ve struggled with my own mental health, and I’ve also watched people close to me struggle with theirs.
I know how difficult it can be to carry things that others may never see, and how important it is to have support and remind people that they’re not alone.
What makes this journey even more meaningful is that I had never run before. Signing up for a marathon was a challenge I never imagined taking on, but I wanted to push myself outside of my comfort zone and use this journey to better my own mental and physical health.
I’m running for those who have struggled in silence, for the people still fighting, for the people I love, and for those we’ve lost. Every mile is a reminder that progress happens one step at a time and that even when the journey is difficult, we can keep moving forward.“

It’s not always easy to know how to help someone who is struggling. The signs aren’t always clear and they may not be willing to receive help, but there are ways we can show up.

Sometimes, that starts with simply asking, “How are you, really?” Listening without judgment. Checking in again. Reminding someone that they don’t have to navigate a difficult moment alone.

Support doesn’t always look like having the right words or knowing exactly what to do. Sometimes, it looks like staying present, reaching out, and helping someone find the support they need. A conversation can be a good starting point and sometimes, that matters more than we realize.

If you or someone you know is in crisis, call or text 988 to connect with the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

If you are seeking general (non-crisis) mental health services or resources, call Care Connect today at 877-755-9988.

August has a way of making us look ahead to new routines, new goals, and everything we want to accomplish before fall.

But we don’t have to do it all at once. In our latest blog, MHA Houston’s Workplace Wellness Director shares how mindfulness and self-compassion can help us slow down, stay grounded, and navigate life’s transitions with less pressure.

Before the month ends, we want to recognize Men’s Mental Health Month and remind our community that strength isn’t measured by how much you keep to yourself.

Talking to someone. Asking questions. Reaching out for support. Those are all signs of strength, too.

If you or someone you care about needs help navigating mental health resources, MHA of Greater Houston’s Care Connect program is here to help. Give us a call at 877-755-9988 or visit us at careconnecttx.org.

Because everyone deserves support, and no one should have to navigate it alone.

Happy Pride Month! This month we celebrate authenticity, community, and the freedom to be yourself.

At MHA of Greater Houston, we know that feeling seen and supported can make a meaningful difference in a person’s mental health journey. For many LGBTQ+ individuals, finding affirming care and resources is an important part of that journey.

Our Care Connect program helps connect people to mental health services, support groups, and community resources because everyone deserves access to care that respects who they are.

This Pride Month, and every month, we are committed to helping create a community where everyone can thrive.

To get connected to care that works for you, call 877-755-9988 or visit us at mhahouston.org.

Today is Global Running Day! Whether you run, walk, stretch, dance, or simply spend time outdoors, we hope you move in a way that supports your well-being.

Today also gives us a chance to make an even bigger impact. MHA of Greater Houston is participating in the Chevron Houston Marathon Run for a Reason Charity Challenge, and we have the opportunity to win an additional $25,000 for mental health programs and resources.

Every donation made today, June 3, helps bring us closer to that goal and supports connection to care, advocacy, education, and resource navigation for people across Texas.
