That means meals, lodging, transportation, activities, and access to a transformational experience grounded in Civil Rights history and our cultural legacy.

60’s Soul Karaoke Night + Dance Party
Date: Saturday, July 11
Time: 6:00pm
www.shape.org/freedomtour

Turn up for the Freedom Tour at our 60’s Soul Karaoke Night + Dance Party! We’re throwing it back to the soundtrack of the Civil Rights era and inviting the community to sing, dance, and celebrate the culture that has carried our people through struggle and into joy.

Come dressed in your favorite 60’s-inspired looks, pick a classic from the karaoke list, and hit the dance floor with elders, youth, and community supporters. Between songs, you’ll hear more about the Freedom Tour, our Alabama itinerary, and the young people you’re helping to send on this journey.

Proceeds and donations from the night go directly toward trip costs and scholarships. Show up, sing loud, dance hard, and help us keep the movement in motion.

Patti Labelle, visited the SHAPE COMMUNITY CENTER on Thursday, May 28, 2026!
Everyone in attendance was thrilled to see her! Her energy was amazing. She was very friendly, warm, loving, kind and caring towards everyone. Her patience is praiseworthy as she graciously took a photo with those who desired to seize this experience with the “Godmother of Soul”. Here are some of the photographic mementos with Patti Labelle.

05/25/2026

Today we honor Afrikan Liberation Day – a day born out of struggle, vision, and the unbreakable determination of Afrikan people to be free everywhere we exist.
From the continent to the diaspora, our liberation movements have resisted colonization, fought apartheid and Jim Crow, built independent schools and community centers, and carried forward a legacy of resistance that we inherit and extend.
Afrikan Liberation Day is not just a date on the calendar. It’s a call to remember that our fight is global, that our destinies are connected, and that the freedom of Black people in Houston, Alabama, Haiti, Congo, Palestine, and beyond are all bound together.
We honor the ancestors, freedom fighters, cultural workers, and everyday people who organized, marched, studied, strategized, and built institutions so that we could stand where we are today. And we commit to doing our part – teaching our children the truth, defending our communities, investing in our own, and refusing to accept anything less than full liberation.
May we use this day to study, organize, heal, and act with clarity. May we remember that Afrikan Liberation Day is every day we choose to struggle, together.
