I am delighted that in this year 2026, Judge Fran Watson, Presiding Judge for Harris County Probate Court # 5 shall serve as the Administrative Judge for all the Harris County Probate Courts. When a loved one dies and a vehicle is in the Decedent’s name, there can be quite an ordeal to get the title changed. It can involve the appointment of a personal representative of the estate, or other heirship filings. The State ofTexas has made it easier by the use of form VTR-122 which is a right of survivorship agreement for vehicles. It makes an annoying but necessary issue rather easy.

Imagine spending 4-5 hours a day on Zoom. Think about playing IT Tech for those unable to operate Zoom properly. Now, consider how others in a hearing may feel as the proceeding evolves into a rolling delay. That is too often the daily experience of Probate Judges and parties appearing remotely

The good news is that the probate courts have a few simple rules to help everyone have a smooth remote experience. Preparation and testing before the hearing, using the correct equipment, and finding a quiet space during the hearing are easy and will help increase efficiency for everyone.
