Impact A Hero Making a positive impact in the lives of Veterans, Service Members and their Families. Honoring and Supporting our wounded veterans financially and emotionally

12/31/2025

From Impact A Hero Executive Director, Constance White:

This is the final post from Impact A Hero. With respect and gratitude, thank you to everyone who has been part of the Impact A Hero mission and journey since 2004.

It has been my honor and privilege over the past four years to lead the organization in meeting our mission to support military veterans, active-duty service members, their caregivers, and family members. As someone who has spent a 40-plus-year career in the nonprofit sector, the time spent with Impact A Hero, as a past board member and as its executive director, has been life-changing. Thank you to the many veterans I have met for helping me to understand more fully the sacrifices made while on active duty, and for understanding the challenges of transition to civilian life. I honor our genuine conversations and friendships made.

During the recently held Impact A Hero Legacy of Freedom Dinner, we invited Stuart C. Nelson Jr, the Institute for Spirituality and Health CEO, to give the ‘closing reflections’. The video is attached, and I encourage you to take the time to listen to his message. We are reminded that the core values of serving others are often found within ourselves.

Until we meet again…

Sincerely,
Constance

A Message from Impact A Hero Board Chairman Michael Acuff:

After 22 years of serving military veterans and their families, the Impact A Hero Board of Directors has elected to dissolve the organization effective December 31st, 2025. This decision was not taken lightly, especially as we proudly earned a 4-Star Charity Navigator Rating.

Impact A Hero was founded in 2004 to assist severely wounded soldiers returning home from the post 9/11 wars. As the years unfolded, Impact A Hero continued to serve veterans and their families, caregivers, by offering personal growth workshops and retreats, educational resources, and financial assistance.

On behalf of Impact A Hero, thank you for the unwavering support from our donors, volunteers, and executive team, with a special thank you to the veterans we have served.

The photo includes past and present board members and staff who attended the 2025 Legacy of Freedom Dinner. “Thank you” for your dedicated service to our veterans and to Impact A Hero.

It was truly an honor for the Impact A Hero Board of Directors (Michael Acuff and Executive Director Constance White) to invite and have attend Cpl Casey Owens' mother, Janna Dunkel, for the recently held Impact A Hero Legacy of Freedom Dinner at Taste of Texas restaurant.

Cpl Casey Owens enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in August 2002, serving two deployments to Iraq. During his second deployment, his convey was ambushed and left him with life-threatening injuries. Casey was honorably discharged in February 2006. He became an advocate for disabled veterans.

After the passing of Cpl Owens in 2014, the Impact A Hero Library became home to a shadow box containing his uniform and items highlighting his life’s accomplishments. The library was named the Cpl Casey Owens Memorial Library, and served numerous veterans, active services members and their families with a safe and quiet place to read while exploring a vast inventory of leadership and personal growth materials. A Cpl Casey Owens Memorial Library annex was also established at PTSD Foundation of America - Camp Hope and “Godspeed” of Skeleton Crew Adventures both organizations addressing PTSD.

In November 2025, the shadowbox was returned to Casey’s mother. Casey’s friends in attendance at the Legacy of Freedom Dinner surrounded her with love and support. Casey’s memory and legacy will live on forever because of the great man and Marine he was, and because his brothers and sisters in military service have gained a healthy mindset because of the library in his name.

Casey was inducted into the Impact A Hero Hall of Fame in 2009. We will never forget him.

The Impact A Hero Board of Directors recently hosted a beautiful Legacy of Freedom Dinner at Taste of Texas Restaurant. The owners Nina and Ed Hendee reminded the guests that the first Impact A Hero Dinner was held at Taste of Texas 20 years ago! We thank them for their support to the Impact A Hero mission over the years. A delicious steak meal was served, and the historic Holiday decor was lovely.

The Legacy of Freedom Dinner honored the IAH Hall of Fame, Class of 2025 (pictured here):

We remember 9/11—a day of deep loss, unity, and resilience. Across the U.S. and the world, we honor the lives lost and the heroes who rose. It's a reminder to cherish loved ones, stand together, and never take peace for granted.

Memorial Day is a day to honor the memory of our military men and women who died while serving our country. It is important to remember their families on this day. Rad Racing Company kicked off its festivities this morning in the community of Kingwood with an inspirational send off for its runners. Impact A Hero is honored to be present and be one of the veteran service organization to benefit! Thank you!
