NEW! The Council for Environmental Education seeks Shell Summer Intern. The Shell Summer Intern Program administered through Volunteer Houston provides grants to local non-profit agencies to hire qualified college students to work eight weeks during the summer months. The selected intern will be a member of the full-time team, interacting with every member of our staff. He or she will play a major role in the 2012 Project WILD Aquatic guide revisions by analyzing and reporting on feedback received through trial runs and field testing of draft environmental education activities designed to involve K-12 teachers in outdoor field investigations. BPA seeks 2 Water Quality Investigator Summer Interns. Bayou Preservation Association seeks two water quality investigators through eight-week long summer intern programs sponsored by Shell and ExxonMobil in cooperation with Volunteer Houston. The Water Quality Investigators will track down, aided with bacterial analyses and water quality testing instruments, the sources and land uses most responsible for elevated Eschericia coli in Houston area waterways. The total salary for the internship period is $2500 or $2750. The qualified intern must be currently enrolled, full time students who has completed at least their freshman year and will be returning to school in the fall of 2012 as a full-time sophomore, junior, or senior. Graduate students are NOT eligible. An Enrollment Verification Form obtained from the Registrars office, is to be submitted along with the Student Profile Form to Volunteer Houston. Under the direct supervision of the park director, the education programmer plans, implements, and presents educational programs for various groups with specific natural/living history topics. Plans and helps execute special events and festivals held throughout the year. Writes informational articles for park publications and newspapers. The Nature Discovery Center seeks Pre-School Teacher. The Nature Discovery Center is looking for a pre-school teacher to coordinate and lead the summer Sneak-A-Peek classes. Sneak-A-Peek classes include hand-on activities designed to inspire children (aged 3.5-5 years) and their caretakers on topics related to science and nature. SCA seeks Summer Crew Leaders. The Student Conservation Association is hiring full-time summer Crew Leaders to lead, mentor and coach a crew of 10 students, ages 15-19, while completing various conservation service projects designed to build an ethic of community and environmental stewardship. Projects include trail maintenance and construction, habitat restoration and community gardening. Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge seeks Summer Crew Members. Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge is seeking summer employment applications from young men and women ages 15 to 18. Two positions will be available through the Youth Conservation Corps program.Crew members will work 40 hours per week for $ 7.25 an hour starting June 11th through August 3rd. Work will be conducted outside and will be physically demanding. Individuals selected must have transportation to and from the refuge office, located at 601 FM 1011, Liberty, Texas. Typical duties will include trail maintenance, boundary line posting, fence construction, building construction, and various restoration and maintenance projects. Educational field trips and training sessions will also be included. Selection will be on a random basis from the list of qualified applicants. SCA's Houston Conservation Collaborative seeks Environmental Conservationist Intern. The Student Conservation Associations Houston Conservation Collaborative is seeking a full-time Environmental Conservationist intern to be placed with Garden Oaks Elementary. This is a 24-week internship expected to start as soon as possible. The intern will work with the community to develop lasting partnerships to emphasize sustainable living habits. Activities and projects will include garden construction, education, community outreach, and grant writing. The successful candidate will be 18 or older and have strong written and verbal communication skills.
