This tube anemone's delicate-looking te****le crown can suddenly contract when disturbed, turning a peaceful-looking flower into a completely different sight in seconds.

This looks like a piece of plastic floating underwater… 👀

But look closer.

That nearly invisible “string” is actually a siphonophore — a remarkable colonial organism made up of many specialized structures working together as one.

And some of its feeding structures can be almost impossible to see in the water.

Would you have realized it was alive? 🌊😳

This looks like dead seaweed… 🌿👀

But wait until it moves.

What looks like a lifeless tangle on the ocean floor is actually a basket star — and when it unfolds, hundreds of branching arms spread through the water like a living net.

Nature can hide in plain sight. 🌊

I thought this was just part of the reef… 😳

Decorator crabs cover their bodies with algae, sponges and other materials from their surroundings. Some even use stinging organisms as part of their defensive camouflage.

The octopus found out the hard way.

Some hydroids have stinging cells that can deliver painful stings when contacted.

Nature doesn't always look dangerous.
