to a Housing & Affordability Committee meeting that was all about partnership, preservation and people.

This month, HCD brought forward several important investments and initiatives designed to strengthen housing stability and expand opportunity across Houston including:

➡️ Continued HOPWA housing assistance
➡️ Multifamily housing rehabilitation work
➡️ Proposed housing tax credit support

But one moment made this meeting especially meaningful. ❤️

This month, several H.E.A.R.T. vocational trainees joined us at City Hall, getting a firsthand look at local government in action, connecting with civic leaders and seeing the very place where decisions impacting our communities are made.

Because the work we do is ultimately about people, and creating more pathways for every Houstonian to learn, grow, thrive and feel connected to their city. ✨

Same homeowner. Same home. 20 years later… a NEW chapter. ✨🏡

She bought her home at 28. Nearly two decades of homeownership later, Harriet found herself facing a challenge she couldn’t ignore: mold in her home.

Through the City of Houston’s Home Repair Program, she was connected to the critical long-term support needed to restore the home she loves. Her home received a full reconstruction, helping ensure she can continue living with comfort, safety, and dignity for years to come. 🔨🏡✨

Harriet’s story is a powerful reminder of what home preservation truly means: protecting stability, strengthening neighborhoods, and helping Houstonians remain rooted in the communities they call home. ❤️🏘️

HCD is doing the work, and we’re committed to keeping it going. 🔨

Because it’s never too late for a new chapter. ✨🏡
