White Oak Pocket Prairie

White Oak Pocket Prairie Native plant pocket prairie along the Heights Hike & Bike Trail at White Oak Drive. We scraped off all the St. Looking forward to seeing what she does with it.

White Oak Pocket Prairie is a little strip of land between our home and the Heights Hike & Bike Trail. After much negotiation, the City of Houston agreed to allow us to maintain the portion which was City right-of-way (about half of the strip of land). Augustine grass and installed native grasses (little bluestem, big bluestem, brownseed, blue gammagrass, Indian grass, inland coastal sea oats, and

others), then seeded 30 varieties of native wildflowers, shrubs, trees and vines. We used live oak logs reclaimed from a golf course expansion project to provide erosion control and cover for critters. Now, with a little nudge from time to time, we simply let Mother Nature recover this stretch along the Heights Hike & Bike Trail.
