Thanks to grant funding provided by the Virginia State Police HEAT (Help Eliminate Auto Theft) Program, four of the Amelia County Sheriff's Office deputies were able to attend the SEIAATI 52nd Annual Vehicle Crimes Conference in Doral, Florida. 🌴

The conference provided advanced training on vehicle-related crimes and offered
opportunities to network with law enforcement professionals from across the country. This training helps our deputies stay current on investigative techniques and best practices to better serve and protect our community.
Thank you to the Virginia State Police HEAT
Program for investing in law enforcement training and education! 🚓

This announcement comes with a heavy heart and mixed feelings; however, I am announcing my official retirement as Sheriff of Amelia County effective January 1, 2027. This will conclude a 47-year service to the Commonwealth of Virginia, to which 19 years of serving Amelia County as your Sheriff. It has truly been an honor to serve the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Virginia State Trooper and a distinguished honor as Sheriff of Amelia. Much gratitude to you, the citizens, for entrusting me and my leadership in providing public safety to all that travel through, live and work in Amelia.

My tenure as Sheriff has allowed me to build a strong relationship with the Board of Supervisors, County Administrator, Fire and EMS services as well as partnering with such a wonderful community and many businesses that has led to friendships that will last a lifetime.

It has been a privilege to work alongside so many men and women (past and present) who are brave and work hard to keep Amelia a peaceful and great place to live and work. I take pride in all the strides that were made together to build this office with respect, dignity and compassion.

Chief Deputy Philip Siegle will be appointed to carry out my unserved term. He is a qualified leader to serve until the November 2027 election. My staff support him and I have full trust that this office will continue to uphold the integrity and professionalism that you are accustomed to when interacting with the Sheriff’s Office

My goal is to ensure a smooth transition and as always, I have an open-door policy. I wish the Sheriff’s Office continued success in serving this blessed county.

The Amelia County Sheriff’s Office extends our thoughts and prayers to the Chesterfield County Police Department, the injured officers, their families, and all those affected by the tragic incident that occurred on May 31, 2026. We also honor the sacrifice of K-9 Knight, who gave his life in the line of duty while protecting others. End of Watch: May 31, 2026.

The courage and dedication displayed by law enforcement officers and K-9 partners each day is a reminder of the risks they willingly face in service to their communities.

Additionally, we offer our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Deputy Sheriff Logan Utt of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. End of Watch: May 29, 2026. We mourn alongside the law enforcement community and keep all who are grieving in our thoughts and prayers.

🚨 COMMUNITY NOTICE 🚨

Last night’s storms prompted an automated emergency notification through the CodeRED Alert System. Today, our dispatch center has received a high volume of calls from citizens concerned they missed a call from the Sheriff’s Office.

Please note: if you received a call from our office number, it was most likely the CodeRED emergency notification system providing weather and safety information. You did not miss a personal call from the Sheriff’s Office, and there is no need to call dispatch back unless you have an emergency or need law enforcement assistance.

CodeRED is used to quickly notify the community about emergencies, severe weather, road closures, missing persons, and other important public safety information.

We appreciate everyone’s concern and understanding, and we encourage citizens to listen to future CodeRED alerts carefully as they are an important tool for keeping our community informed and safe.

The Amelia County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend a sincere thank you to Ledger Mann and his father, Prince George County Police Sgt. JT Mann, for their generosity and commitment to helping others.

Together, they co-founded LGM Bags clear bags filled with sensory items designed to help calm children on the autism spectrum or those who have experienced trauma. These bags provide comfort during difficult moments and are a valuable resource for first responders.

To date, they have distributed more than 70 bags to agencies across Central Virginia, with each bag costing just under $40 to create. Their continued efforts, including the formation of a 501(c)(3), will allow this program to grow and reach even more individuals in need.

Ledger’s goal is simple keep filling as many bags as possible and we are grateful to be part of that mission.

Thank you both for making a difference in our community.

And of course, K9 Sansa made sure to inspect each bag… just in case there were any snacks inside 😉
