We care for the well-being of every ward, and when one asks for a picture of Mary Catherine (and her deputy dog) with Judge Mary, we happily oblidge!

ADVOCATING FOR ALL:
Serving Others

The Probate Court oversees approximately 100 guardianships each year. A guardianship is established when a minor or adult cannot care for themself and/or their finances.

Last year, the Probate Court began a new program with annual in home visits by trained staff to check in on those in the Court’s care. Staff check to see if needs are being met and if additional services can be matched to help the guardians and wards.

Today, we’re beginning an additional program, guardianship peer connections.

Heather and her son Dominic were in Court today. Dominic gave Judge King a fist bump and Heather volunteered to be added to a list of available contacts for guardians. The goal is to provide an additional support net for guardians built on shared peer experiences. Sometimes it’s helpful to have a similar community of peers to ask questions, learn about new services, or just to empathize with when things get tough. If you are a guardian and would like to either volunteer to help out others or would like to be connected with a peer guardian, please contact the Probate Court at [email protected]. All participation is completely voluntary and no contact info will be released without express written consent.

The Court would like to give a special thanks to Dominic and Heather for their willingness to help others and start this program.

JUSTICE IN ACTION:

Today, the Common Pleas General Division hosted the Twelfth District Court of Appeals for oral arguments at the Fayette County Courthouse. The Juvenile Court participated in prepping Washington Senior High School students for one of the cases. These field trips are invaluable because they make justice accessible and understandable for our youth. The Court would like to give a big THANK YOU to everyone involved!
