Attention Amelia County Short-Term Rental & Lodging Operators:

The Amelia County Board of Supervisors is adding a Transient Occupancy Tax for the upcoming year, which applies directly to short-term rental lodging. As part of the statutory requirement for implementing a tax rate greater than 2%, the County must meet with the local tourism industry and the specific stakeholders this tax will affect.

Amelia County Administration is hosting this meeting to discuss the implementation of the tax, answer your questions, and gather vital industry input regarding local tourism marketing and promotion. The meeting will take place next Monday, September 21st, at 6:00 PM at the County Administration Building. This meeting is highly relevant for all local lodging operators, including hotels, campgrounds, and short-term rental operators utilizing platforms like Airbnb and VRBO.

Please note that the Board of Supervisors is scheduled to readopt this ordinance at its September meeting. This upcoming action puts added importance on attending the meeting this Monday to ensure your voice is heard before final decisions are made.

As we prepare for these changes, short-term rental operators will also need to ensure they hold the appropriate county zoning permit and a valid Business, Professional, and Occupational License (BPOL), in addition to complying with the new tax requirements.

Your input is incredibly valuable to our community. If you are unable to attend the meeting next Monday but would like to submit comments or speak with an official, please reach out to Amelia County Administration by calling (804) 561-3033 or by emailing [email protected]

The Real Estate and Personal Property assessment books are officially printed and with the Treasurer's office to create this year's tax bills.

Despite facing a few major operational and software hurdles this season, our dedicated team worked diligently to finish the books ahead of the legal deadline, although about two weeks later than our usual internal schedule. We apologize for any delay.

⚠️ Don't forget: The Board moved the tax deadline up this year. All property tax payments are due November 1
