Good Day Members and Friends,

Because tomorrow is a holiday for many (Juneteenth) I thought I’d put this out a day early.

• Please help us welcome our newest Chamber member, Marcus Crocker of Crock-A-Dial Computers LLC. Marcus offers Information Technology Consulting throughout Southern Aroostook and Northern Washington Counties as well as professional services for reliable computer repair, system security, and technical consulting for homes and businesses. You can reach him at [email protected] or by calling 207-448-2357. FYI…Marcus comes highly recommended by Lori Weston herself!!!
• Don’t forget that Sunday is Game Night at The Living Room starting at 4pm. Team trivia at 4 and open gaming starts at 5:30. Stop by 60 Main St. and check out this exciting new gathering space. Questions? Call Randi at 860-510-2478.
• This Saturday (20th) is the Dewey DeWitt 2-person Scramble at Houlton Community Golf Course in New Limerick. To sign up call 532-2662.
• It’s McGill’s Band opening night at 7pm! But, alas, check WHOU before you go to the park. If it rains, they will cancel.
• Tomorrow night from 4 to 7pm the Greater Houlton Christian Academy will have the food truck open ordering a special bacon burger with all the side in honor of Father’s Day which is this Sunday.
• We are in for some rain tonight and tomorrow, but it wouldn’t dare rain on Community Market on Saturday, would it? You can still find us at the corner of Main and Broadway from 8:30am to 12:30pm and for the Saturday of the 4th, the market will join the crafters in Monument Park so it’s not in the way of the parade route. The Market will be back in Market square on July 11.
• The BMV (Bureau of Motor Vehicles) Mobile Unit will the 4th be in Mardens Parking lot on the fourth Thursday of the month (June 25). If you don’t want to schlep all the way to Caribou this is your chance starting at 10am.
• Adopt-A-Block is hosting a class on” Trellis Designs for your Garden” Class is free but please register by calling 532-2273.
• Sunday is Father’s Day. Be kind to the dads out there!

Have a great, long weekend!

Jane

Good Day members and Friends…again.

#1 - I made a mistake on the date for the Classic Car Cruise-in at GHCA because I thought today was the 11th. Its actually the 12th and the cruise-in is tonight, rain or shine.
#2 – Usually I wait to announce events that are more than 2 weeks out because, face it, we are human and it’s a busy world and it’s easy to forget. But our friends in Amity want me to announce Amity Friendship Days to be held on July 18th from 8am to 4pm. Why so early? They are having yard sales , bake sales and craft sales and hope to have people sign up for spaces. Contact Melissa at 532-2485 to reserve your space.
#3 – The Amity Veterans Honor Roll Committee is hoping to raise money for maintaining the monument by selling tickets to a raffle of a Henry Lever Action 45-70, Brass with a 22” Octagon Barrel. $20 each, 6 tickets for $100 available at Seiders Variety on Calis Rd.

That’s all I have for today. I think.

Good day Members and Friends,

Well, I did it. Finally updated my pickup truck and would like to give a huge shoutout to York’s of Houlton. On a whim (much to my daughter’s dismay who shops for vehicles like she’s setting a battle plan) , and because I happened to be driving by, I decided to pop-in and have a talk with Mike Brown about my vehicle needs. So why the random stop on a beautiful summer day? York’s of Houlton is a very supportive member of the Chamber and being an impulse buyer…I thought I’d check them out. The service was excellent and Mike seemed to understand when I said that I hate shopping for vehicles, I will drive the one I have until it dies by the side of the road, plus I hate to dicker.. About an hour later and two test drives I had chosen a 2024 GMC Canyon that had more dings and whistles than I could hope for. Plus talking to Mike and then Amy Suitter in financing was like talking to two old friends who made the process simple. The daughter, who I might start calling “The General”, asked me if it had the heated seats I always wanted. Of course, I had no idea, but I love the way it looks. She shook her head. Sometimes she worries about me. And yes, for those who come to the office to visit when they see the black truck out front, the new one is still black and it does have heated seats!

• There is a lot of buzz going around about the 4th of July weekend. People who have never even thought about being in the parade are calling to sign up so, put your thinking caps on (see what I did there? We have a theme, Hats Off to America!) and start a discussion with fellow workers about how you can best represent your business on America’s 250th birthday.
• Sign up now for the Invasive Plant Workshop on June 25 at the Patten Lumbermen’s Museum from 10 to 3. Forester Lauren Ouellette will be covering invasive plant identification and management. Lunch is included. Space is limited. Call Lauren at 441-3817 FMI
• The Chamber website is being redesigned (yay!) and we hope to launch late next week. Meanwhile, be advised that the old site at Greaterhoulton.com is not up to date and you may have to call or email me for forms for events or questions. Maggie Small of Small Design Co has taken on the monumental task of adding our 200 members along with their logos and links to their pages as well as all the other things that go in to designing a website. Can’t wait for you to see!
• McGill’s Community Band is in Monument Park this Thursday (18), from 7 to 8:30 PM. Machias Savings Bank is the nights sponsor.
• The Greater Houlton Christian Academy is hosting a Classic Car Cruise-in on Saturday, June 12 from 4 to 7 at the school. The food truck will be there!
• This Thursday from 4:30 to 7 the Ambassadors are hosting a New Comers Welcome Reception at the County Co-op at 53 Main St.from 4:30 to 7. Stop by and say hello.
• Don’t forget Community Market this Saturday from 8:30am to 12:30pm temporarily located in front of the library on the corner of Main and Broadway. There is a lobsterman from the coast who brings lobster, halibut and clams at a wicked great price as well as a farm selling microgreens. We are also continuing to sign up Farm Share for low income seniors so don’t forget to stop by the Market tent.

Well, that’s about it for what looks to be a beautiful weekend. See you soon!

Jane

Ever walked by Market Square Commons and wondered what’s behind the doors besides apartments?
Join us Thursday from 4–6 PM for a Business Open House with Linda Rowe of Lindāyurveda. Many know Linda for yoga, but there's much more to discover. Tour the studio, enjoy refreshments, and learn about the wellness services she offers right here in downtown Houlton.
Thank you to Linda for opening her doors and giving us the opportunity to connect, learn, and celebrate another local business making a difference in our community.

Good Day Members and Friends,

If any of you received a random, half- written Housekeeping from me…apologies are in order. Someone came in my office to talk, and I managed to place a folder on the keyboard which hit “send”. So, in a nutshell, I am dangerous around electronic devices.

FYI, Preparations for the 4th of July celebration are underway. The parade is coming together well, and people are already calling to sign up. We do have a theme this year, “Hats Off to America” along with a helpful decorating guide. Let me know if you would like me to send it to you.
For those who are curious, Midnight Madness will feature fireworks this year. Although costs have risen sharply because of tariffs on fireworks imported from China, generous donations have enabled the Chamber’s Board of Directors to move forward with the display and continue the tradition. Please remember that this event would not be possible without sponsorship. In the days leading up to July 3, posters and banners will highlight the businesses whose support helps bring events like Midnight Madness to life. Please feel free to thank them!

• For all of you who love the thrill of a running race, S.W. Collins is hosting a 5k race and fun run in June. Open the hyperlink FMI. S.W. Collins 5K Road Race & Kids Fun Run 2026
• Please join Dr. Linda Rowe on June 11, from 4 to 6pm at a Business Open House at her Yoga studio in The Commons right off Market Square. Linda has been a longtime business owner in Houlton, and we encourage you to stop by and find out more about Linda’s Ayurvedic practice as well as her approach to overall health and wellness. Refreshments will be provided and there will be someone at the from door of the Commons to guide you to the studio.
• Our friends at Mill Pond Dairy Bar are celebrating their first year in business and have lots of specials to share with you. Check them out in FB
• Arend T. Thibodeau, professional photographer and author of “Maine’s Military Might” will be speaking at Cary Library on June 8th from 3 to 4pm. Come hear more about memories of Military infrastructure in the Pine Tree State.
• Adopt-A-Block is hosting a Drive-Thru Food Giveaway, Saturday June 6 at 9am at The Church on the Hill, 307 Military St. Contact the church at 532-2783 FMI
• Community Market is back for its second Saturday. Exciting news! We are now joined by a lobsterman who is bringing lobster, halibut, and fresh clams. It’s also the first Saturday that low-income seniors can sign up for the Farm Share program. Share the news please. *** temporarily re-located in front of Cary Library until construction is completed in Market Square.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!
