All members of the Houlton Police Department would like to thank the Houlton Elks Lodge #835 for the amazing meal for First Responder appreciation on the 25 anniversary of 911. Although today is a somber day for America, their recognition of all of us is truly appreciated! May we forever remember all Americans lost on that tragic day!

The RSU 29 School district, Region 2 and the Greater Houlton Christian Academy (GHCA) will be opening on Tuesday, September 01 2027. We wish our students a safe, enjoyable and successful year! We thank all staff from RSU 29, Region 2, GHCA, support staff and administrators for their dedication to education and the partnership with HPD.

PLEASE practice safe driving and be aware of your surroundings. Our youth will be walking and cycling to and from school daily as well as taking the bus.

Watch for school busses and red flashing signals. Stopping is mandatory by law to safeguard our students.

Watch for pedestrian crosswalks, also mandatory to stop, allowing pedestrians to cross.

Officers will be on increased patrols in and out of the schools and residential areas.

Today, HPD Communications Supervisor, Jolene Wallace was greeted by two boys in the lobby. She was surprised that they were offering to clean our windows as a kind gesture. (Note: they were just cleaned today by our custodian, Keaton). Of course we accepted their rare kind gesture and they went to work, it was impressive. This act of kindness still exists in the world we live today and it’s even more impactful coming from our youth.

Thank you Deklan and Kadesh Flewelling for your kindness and reminding us about giving to others.

Of course they left with a Houlton Farms Dairy token and a generous tip.

Special thanks to all of HPD for your dedication, professionalism and community service during the “Midnight Madness” event and the “Independence Day” parade. This was a community partnership organized and sponsored by the Greater Houlton Chamber of Commerce. Your performance was outstanding and appreciated.
