📓 Do you enjoy journaling, scribbling, or writing?
📝 Do you have story ideas swimming around your head?
✍️ Do you want to be a writer someday but don’t know where to start?

The Young Writers Storytelling Workshop is coming to the Keweenaw for a two-hour event at
🏫 Portage Lake District Library on
🗓️ Saturday, October 10 from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm

All middle schoolers and high schoolers who enjoy writing are welcome to attend. This event is not appropriate for younger children because it requires good writing skills, time on task, as well as attention to detail.

Join Rehema Clarken, PhD, a Young Adult novelist, to learn about writing stories and getting published. For those who want a challenge, we will discuss how to take your writing to the next level by submitting stories to local writing competitions. We will explore the Dandelion Cottage Short Story Contest, a writing competition for UP students, and Write Michigan, a state-wide writing challenge that is free for school-aged writers.

This event is sponsored by the Upper Peninsula Publishers and Authors Association. It is similar to the yearly Young Writers Storytelling Workshop that happens each May at the annual conference in Marquette. PLDL is supporting this event for young writers in the Keweenaw. This will enable those who cannot attend the other event to have a similar experience.

For more information, please contact Rehema at [email protected] or the Portage Lake District Library.
