OPEN HOUSE
HOT SPRINGS SIDEWALK PROJECT
The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT), in partnership with Morrison-Maierle (MMI), is advancing plans for a sidewalk improvement project in Hot Springs that is scheduled to begin construction in 2027.
The project will focus on improving pedestrian infrastructure throughout the community, including replacing deteriorated sidewalks and upgrading connections to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards. These improvements are designed to enhance safety, accessibility, and mobility for residents and visitors traveling to and from downtown Hot Springs.
Hot Springs has experienced increased pedestrian activity due to local commuting patterns, making these upgrades an important investment in the community's transportation network. By improving sidewalk conditions and accessibility, MDT aims to provide safer and more reliable routes for people of all ages and abilities.
Before construction begins, MDT is inviting community members to attend an open house to learn more about the project, review preliminary plans, and provide feedback to the project team.

BEAR NEWS!!!!
The Tribal FWP guys were just in city hall and have requested that we put out this notice to the public-
If you feed your cats or dogs outside- make sure you put the food away at night.
Secure your garbage!!! Bear proof cans are ideal for outdoor garbage or put your trash inside until garbage day.

There is a mama bear and 2 babies in town and as a town we need to make them feel very unwelcome (don't feed them!) They are trying their best to run them out of town without having to put them down. Trapping a mama and 2 babies is very difficult. If you catch the babies, Mama is mad, tearing up the trap and FWP guys aren't able to get to the trap to remove the babies, then catching mama at the same time is next to impossible. This situation would likely end in dead bears. Nobody really wants that to happen. But ultimately, keeping kids, pets, and people safe is top priority.

Even if they get these three out of town, another one will come if we, as a community do not take care of our outdoor space. These guys spent some time around town and there are MANY very visible, easy to fix problems. Trash and outdoor pet dishes are the two biggest red flags!

ON ANOTHER NOTE: Message from them. They have identified at least one location in town in which someone is obviously and regularly feeding deer. It is illegal to feed/supplement wildlife. This means you can NOT be feeding deer. They are not pets and should not be given hay or other supplemental food. You may be cited by FWP if this does not stop immediately.

Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative launched in 2011 that connects police officers with community members in informal,, one-on-one settings—typically local coffee shops—to build trust, discuss neighborhood concerns, and strengthen relationships. These low-stress events remove barriers like patrol cars and radios, allowing for open dialogue, with police officers.

We are excited to announce that several local businesses in Hot Springs have offered to host Coffee with a Cop. More details coming soon!
