🚨 TORNADO RISK UPGRADED

The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded much of the area to a Level 2 tornado risk for tonight as the core of the storm system is now expected to track very near the I-85 corridor.

I’ll be watching closely for rotating thunderstorms this afternoon and evening.

It’s important to remember that I share this information to prepare you, not scare you. Most of us will simply experience rain and thunderstorms, but a few storms could become severe and capable of producing a tornado.

πŸŒͺ️ Have a way to receive warnings today and tonight.
πŸ“± Keep your phone nearby.
⚠️ Pay attention if a warning is issued for your area.

This is not a major tornado outbreak, but it is a setup that deserves respect and close monitoring.

As always, I’ll be tracking every storm and will keep you posted the moment anything turns severe.

πŸŒ€πŸ“‘ From the desk of Meteorologist Jackie:

"The invest area on the gulf has been upgraded to Tropical Storm Arthur. The storm is not expected to reach hurricane strength and heavy rainfall/flash flooding is the main risk throughout southern LA, southern MS, southern AL, SW GA, and the FL panhandle."

The attached graphics show the current forecast track, expected rainfall, and model guidance for Arthur. While the storm is not forecast to become a hurricane, flooding is often one of the deadliest hazards associated with tropical systems.

If you have friends or family along the Gulf Coast, now is a good time to remind them to stay weather aware, monitor official forecasts, and review their emergency plans. πŸŒ§οΈπŸ“»

Grounded Boots Relief will continue monitoring the storm and any potential impacts within our range of response.

πŸŒ¦οΈπŸ“‘ From the desk of Meteorologist Jackie:
"On Thursday and Friday we’re expecting increased tropical moisture over the SE leading to heavy rainfall. Severe weather potential also exists on the 18th along the east coast including VA and WV. Additionally, there is a potential for tropical storms development in the gulf with a 40% chance of formation the next 2 days and 50% in the next 7 days. If a tropical system does develop, it is expected to be a short lived tropical storm on Wednesday/Thursday impacting the coasts of TX, LA, and MS."
As always, now is a good time to review your emergency plans, make sure your weather alerts are enabled, and keep a weather radio nearby. We'll continue monitoring conditions and share updates as they become available. πŸ₯ΎπŸŒ§οΈ

πŸš‘πŸ©Ί Prepared communities are resilient communities. πŸ©ΊπŸš‘

Yesterday, Dr. Laura Block trained 11 students in CPR, AED use, and Stop the Bleed, giving them the knowledge and confidence to act when seconds matter most.

While American Heart Association certifications are on the way, the real value is knowing that 11 more people in our community are now better prepared to respond to a medical emergency, whether at home, at work, on the trail, or during a disaster.

A huge thank you to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Hendersonville for generously allowing us to use their facility for this important training.

Every person trained is another potential lifesaver in our community. ❀️

πŸŒ€ Hurricane season has officially begun.

The best time to volunteer is not when the storm is making landfall; it's before the clouds gather, before the roads flood, and before help is urgently needed.

Joining ahead of disasters gives you time to learn how we operate, meet fellow volunteers, get plugged into the right teams, and decide where your skills fit best. Whether you're an off-roader, drone pilot, communicator, event planner, meteorologist, chainsaw operator, grant writer, photographer, or simply someone who wants to help, there's a place for you.

Disasters don't wait for organizations to build teams. The teams have to exist beforehand.

If you've been considering getting involved, now is the time. Help us build a stronger, more capable network before the next storm arrives. πŸ₯ΎπŸŒ§οΈπŸš™
