We’re on cloud 9 anticipating our community outing tomorrow. Look to the sky as we have firefighters rappelling down, a first time public event for HCFD. We’re roping down at 9:30 and again at 4:00 for two chances to catch us (not literally…)

Ever seen videos of a firefighter on a roof during a fire? Nope, they’re not checking for leaks. Firefighters will complete a task called Vertical Ventilation during fires. This consist of cutting a hole in the roof to allow the heat, smoke and gases trapped in a structure to exit more quickly and efficiently. This has to be coordinated with other fire ground activities and only is beneficial during specific instances. When accomplished it greatly increases conditions in the structure to help any victims, speed up search teams and allow fire attack crews to move quicker to extinguish the fire. In 7 days we’ll have a prop to demonstrate this tactic at the event! Come watch your firefighters train to better serve you.

School finals have you stressed? The rainy week have you ready to blow? Overtime at work catching up? Have we got a stress relief for you! Only 9 more days until you can bust plastic, pop a tire and bend some metal. We'll have TWO cars set up for a smash station at our Open House. Closed toed shoes required, all other safety equipment (and weapons) will be supplied. Only one ticket gets 30 seconds of smash and bash fun. Keep watch, another event highlight coming tomorrow!

We noticed sparked attention over the smoke around the rest area this afternoon.
At 13:07 HCFD was dispatched for a commercial vehicle fire at the North Bound rest area and Munfordville Fire and Rescue was requested for mutual aid. Quick thinking by the CMV operator prior to Fire Dept arrival to detach from the trailer helped prevent further fire spread. The tractor progressed to heavily involved before Fire units arrived on scene. A MFD unit was closest and arrived to find an active fire updating responding units. Horse Cave’s Engine 440 arrived and Firefighters extinguished the fire with no damage occurring outside the initial vehicle. We’re thankful for our neighbors at MFD, Law Enforcement and the wrecker service that assisted during the incident.
