Today we honor, we mourn, we salute, and we remember those who we lost 25 years ago. To the 343 firefighters that honored the oath and rose to a challenge no person could ever prepare themselves for. And the 2,634 other souls that didn’t come home that day. The “normal” Americans that faced with the unimaginable, shown bravery we can only imagine. So many giving their all knowing it would be their everything. Let us not let the passing of time dim the heroics that were displayed. And to the horrific number of people that made their way home, but have since suffered with or passed due to the health affects from the exposures from that day. We pray for each family member that holds strong onto the memory of the loved ones we lost.

Traffic Alert.

Main St between 31-W and Higbee St will be temporarily closed between the hours of 5:00pm-8:30pm today, tomorrow and possibly Thursday (August 11th, 12th and 13th). Closure is for filming as a production crew is in the area for a few days.

On the morning of the 24th, we were honored to host the Kentucky Brotherhood during their 400-mile journey across the state. These men and women put their resolve and bodies to the test as they travel nearly 100 miles by bike each day.

We are appreciative of the awareness that is spread due to this group of first responder’s dedication. While they traveled into several different stations between Paducah and Bardstown to speak and spread stories, we are reminded of those who we have lost in the Line of Duty. We were honored to have our own Chief speak, along with our KSP partners and those within the ride.

We continue to remember those who, while they may not still be with us, have cemented a place in the Fire/EMS/Police service due to the people they have served.

Again, we thank the Kentucky Brotherhood for stopping by in our beautiful city. Your mission is one of full honor and is a reminder of the bonds that outstretch the fire station walls.

We loved seeing everyone that stopped by to see us at the KOA prior to the fireworks. As we progress through the night, celebrate safely. And remember, don’t throw your fireworks away tonight immediately after firing them. Let’s keep the fire in the sky, not the trash can.

We have been out and about lately in addition to the increase of emergency responses due to heat, storms and summer traveling. Horse Cave Firefighters were able to host The Hart of Autism for a Station Tour and Fire Safety discussion. Also Members attended a career day allowing small group meets with ages 4-17 over fire safety in the home and what a career as a Firefighter looks like.

Yesterday HCFD was alerted for a possible structure fire on W Main st. Units were advised a HCPD officer observed smoke while on patrol and was evacuating the home. Munfordville Fire and Cave City Fire were requested for mutual aid and units arrived to find smoke showing from the attic vents.

Firefighters entered and located a fire in the attic above the kitchen area of the home. Due to construction and configuration of the home, firefighters created access through a hole in the roof for extinguishment efforts. The fire was controlled with minor damage and no injuries.

Thank you for your patience as W Main was shut down during the duration of the fire scene. We appreciate our neighboring departments and all other agencies that assisted during the emergency.

We’re on cloud 9 anticipating our community outing tomorrow. Look to the sky as we have firefighters rappelling down, a first time public event for HCFD. We’re roping down at 9:30 and again at 4:00 for two chances to catch us (not literally…)
