Last night, Chief Pullen recognized the retirement of Daffy Darby after more than 25 years of dedicated service to the Horn Lake Police Department.

While Daffy has never been one to seek the spotlight, her impact on our department cannot be overstated. She is one of those special individuals who prefers to work behind the scenes, quietly ensuring that everything gets done efficiently and professionally. Her dedication, dependability, and commitment to excellence have made her an invaluable part of the Horn Lake Police Department for more than two decades.

Throughout her career, Daffy has been the kind of employee every organization hopes to have—hardworking, loyal, knowledgeable, and always willing to help others. Her contributions may not always have been visible to the public, but they have been felt by everyone who has had the privilege of working alongside her.

As she begins this well-deserved new chapter, we thank Daffy for her years of service, dedication, and commitment to the citizens of Horn Lake. Her presence will certainly be missed, but her legacy will remain.

Congratulations, Daffy, on your retirement! We wish you many years of happiness, good health, relaxation, and countless new adventures.

At last night’s Board of Aldermen meeting, Mayor Stokes presented a Key to the City to Connie James in recognition of her extraordinary service, leadership, and dedication to our community through Heartland Hands.

Connie’s love for people and unwavering commitment to helping others have been instrumental in the success of Heartland Hands. Her top priorities are ensuring that no individual goes without food or basic necessities and helping those who are struggling with drug and alcohol addiction find hope and support.

Heartland Hands is a faith-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization staffed entirely by dedicated, unpaid volunteers. The organization provides food assistance to families and individuals whose incomes fall below the Mississippi poverty level and serves Horn Lake and surrounding communities with compassion and dignity. Heartland Hands also supports 27 agencies and 37 food pantries throughout Mississippi and continues to expand its impact.

The numbers speak volumes about the difference this organization is making:

• In 2025, Heartland Hands served 7,066 families, representing 21,257 individuals, and distributed 859,678 pounds of food.

• Thus far in 2026, Heartland Hands has served 2,735 families, representing 8,326 individuals, and distributed 414,096 pounds of food—averaging more than 500 families served each month.

Connie James and the incredible volunteers of Heartland Hands embody the very best of servant leadership. Their dedication provides hope, nourishment, and support to thousands of families throughout our region.

Congratulations, Connie, on this well-deserved honor, and thank you for making a lasting difference in the lives of so many.

The entire City of Horn Lake will soon be illuminated with LED lights within the next month or two. Interestingly, this project won’t cost the $4 million previously agreed upon with the former board. Instead, it will only cost $40,000 thanks to a new arrangement with Entergy, which provides the same lights along with better services. Entergy will take care of the maintenance, whereas the other company would have taken the $4 million and left the taxpayers responsible for the upkeep. We want to make it clear — we are not for sale!
