The Mississippi Legislature will gather in the Old Capitol on May 20 to consider redistricting. In a state where 40% of our population is Black, we can’t have all majority-white districts. White folks will inevitably be the majority in lots of districts - Black Mississippians should be the majority in many others. Which candidates will win elections in all of those districts is up for grabs.

Our leadership must consider the unique history and composition of Mississippi as they make this historic decision. And those of us who believe in the promise of the Voting Rights Act need to be prepared to fight for basic fairness. See you in Montgomery on Saturday and in Jackson on May 20!

Trent Kelly takes millions from corporate PACS. Not me! I'm joining ’s Unrig Washington Campaign: a bold, public commitment to clean up Congress. I'm leading by example by refusing corporate PAC money, supporting a stock trading ban, and cracking down on dark money.

I’m proud to be working with by joining their Unrig Washington campaign, which calls for banning Congressional stock trading, refusing corporate PAC money, and cracking down on dark money.

Background

The 2026 midterm elections will be a referendum on a broken system. Voters across the political spectrum, especially Independents and swing voters, are hungry for change. They overwhelmingly see corruption, self-dealing, and special interest influence as the root cause of Washington’s failures.

To meet this moment, we’re calling on elected officials and candidates to Unrig Washington. This End Citizens United program is a bold, public commitment to clean up Washington by supporting real anti-corruption reforms and leading by example.

Ban Congressional Stock Trading: Support legislation to prohibit Members of Congress from trading individual stocks. Public office is a place to serve, not to profit.

Refuse Corporate PAC Money: Reject all contributions from corporate PACs to send a clear message: Elected officials' priorities are the people, not powerful corporations or special interests.

Crack Down on Dark Money: Fight to end the flood of undisclosed political spending by supporting legislation to expose secret donors, increase transparency, and fix the FEC to have a cop on the beat. It's time to end the dominance of billionaire-funded special interest groups.

NON VOTERS HAVE BROKEN OUR SYSTEM OF CHECKS AND BALANCES.

May 20th is when MS's Governor had asked the Legislature , to gather in the Old Capitol building to redraw the Congressional District lines, but then
the Governor canceled/postponed their activities until their next 2027 Legislative Session.

A DAY OF ACTION is planned to protest on 5/20 10am-2pm and we are projected to have over 1000 Mississippians from across our great state converging on the Capitol to participate.
Please join us, we have the chance to put this Mississippi on the right side of history, by standing up for democracy, equality and fairness and standing against the un-American (postponed) redistricting scheme they now plan to execute in 2027 that would set us back generations.

Some of us are driving to Jackson to participate in the DAY OF ACTION to discuss the RETURN OF in TN, AL, LA and here in MS with our 2 public protests that have received permits and coordination with the Capitol Police.

Join our Indivisible DeSoto MS -Field Trip to Jackson - 100 South State Street, (the Old Capitol Building where was written into our constitution) to listen to a 10am press conference. Then we will join a parade to walk to the new Capitol building when there will be a Noon Rally of speakers: Congressman Bennie G Thompson, Eddie Glaude, Reena Evers, and NAACP President Derrick Johnson.

At this time there are at least 4 cars leaving DeSoto to join the Day of Action in Jackson on May 20th. There is room for more riders, 662-429-4412 or you can always drive your own car. We're Leaving Hernando WalMart at 6:30am to be there in time for 10am press conference in Jackson. Parking will be a challenge. Bring a chair, water/snack, camera, and what will your sign say??.
