Town of Hopkinton, NH

Town of Hopkinton, NH The Town of Hopkinton includes the village of Contoocook. For more information: hopkinton-nh.gov

Incorporated in 1765, the Town of Hopkinton was once the state capital and a popular stop on the passenger rail line between Boston and Montreal. The town was made up of three distinct entities: Hopkinton, mainly as a residential area; West Hopkinton, primarily the location for the town's agricultural center; and Contoocook Village, the town's business hub. Many still refer to the three separatel

y, but they are one town with three sections that share the same zip code and school system. Hopkinton and its business district of Contoocook Village offer small town ambiance through a blend of well preserved history and natural beauty. In addition to working farms and the oldest covered railroad bridge in the United States, both villages host a variety of eclectic shops and services.

Friendly Reminder from the Cemetery Trustees
The Cemetery Trustees would like to remind those who tend to their loved one's graves in the town's cemeteries of the rules and regulations about decorations:

"Live plantings within ten inches of the memorial stone are permitted. Entire lots or plots may not be covered with plantings. No plastic flowers are permitted in the ground. All other decorative items should be placed on the memorial stone or the foundation item. Mulching, ground cover plantings or fencing are not permitted. Shrubs or small trees may not be planted except with written permission from the Trustees."

"No coping, curbing, fencing, hedging, grave mound borders, or enclosures of any kind shall be allowed around any lot; and no walks of brick cinders, tile, stone, marble, terracotta, sand cement, gravel or wood shall be allowed on any lot. The Trustees reserve the right to remove the same if so erected, planted or placed. If any historic enclosure now in place shall become dilapidated, the Cemetery Trustees are authorized to remove same."

We request that plastic flowers, plantings greater than 10 inches from memorial stones, any borders, etc. be removed from the cemeteries by July 10th. Feel free to contact us at: 603-746-8268 if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you.
