Thank you to the Hopkinton Women's Club for hosting Meet the Candidates Night, and to everyone who showed up or tuned in to watch.
My focus last night was on two things that matter most to me. Every child, and the future our schools are preparing them for.
Every child means exactly that. Every child deserves a pathway to succeed in our schools, with the support to walk it. Forward-looking pathways for the ambitious and aspirational ones reaching for more. Strengths-based pathways for our special education students and our students who learn differently. Pathways for the kids quietly finding their way. Every one of them belongs, and every one of them deserves a Hopkinton school system that sees them, supports them, and helps them rise.
The future means AI. It is not coming, it is here. Our schools have to prepare students for a world being reshaped in real time, and we have to do it without leaving anyone behind. That is why I am proposing voluntary, community-led pathways in AI, Medical, and Business pathways, open to all our students. And it is why I want to bring AI to fiscal innovation, doing more with more, so we can fund every program our kids need.
It also means guardrails. Grade-appropriate and considerate use of tech tools, with the wisdom to know that learning about AI does not mean AI-infused learning all the time. Our kids still need to read deeply, write by hand, struggle through a math problem and have mom or dad learn algebra again to help them (I personally enjoy the honor of learning honors algebra, and you can't see right now but my face is so straight when I say that... and dads are allowed to cheat with AI when their kids aren't watching, right?), and have real conversations with real teachers. AI should be a tool in the toolbox, not the whole shop.
This campaign has been about real solutions for real opportunities. Not vague talking points, not preachy slogans. The actual work of figuring out how Hopkinton's schools serve every kid, and how we get them ready for what comes next.
These are solutions that have been percolating from years of actually being involved and looking for growth opportunities. Not overnight campaign filler material.
Election Day is May 18. I would be honored to have your vote.
