For 25 years, Hopkinsville Fire/EMS has honored those who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11th, 2001.

This morning, nearly 40 HFD Firefighters, Admin staff, and EMS personnel once again met to pay their respects.

Hopkinsville Fire/EMS joined Hopkinsville Police at this morning’s Christian County Chamber of Commerce “Rise and Respond” Eye-Opener Breakfast at The Silo.

At 2:33 am, HFD Fire and EMS responded to a single-vehicle accident involving ejection at the intersection of Novadell Way and Fort Campbell Blvd. The caller reported that the 20 year-old driver, and only occupant, had been ejected and was pinned underneath vehicle.

Within minutes, crews arrived and confirmed the presence of a patient underneath the vehicle. Firefighters, along with EMS personnel, worked together to remove the patient from the vehicle while simultaneously initiating treatment interventions.

Air Medical was requested to the scene, and once the patient was extricated, they were flown to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee with critical injuries.

At approximately 11:15 a.m. today, Hopkinsville Fire/EMS responded to the 5000 block of Canton Pike for a vehicle versus building collision.

The vehicle struck Southern States, causing minor damage to the building. An employee working inside an office on the opposite side of the impacted wall sustained minor injuries. Thankfully, after being evaluated by EMS, the employee did not require transport to the hospital.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured in the collision.

Hopkinsville Police are investigating the collision.

After 26 years of dedicated service to the Hopkinsville Fire Department and the citizens of our community, Battalion Chief Spencer Wood will officially work his last 24-hour shift on September 10, 2026.

Chief Wood began his career with HFD on September 11, 2000, and over the past 26 years has risen from Firefighter/EMT to his current role as Shift Commander of Battalion 1. Throughout his career, he has served with professionalism, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to both the fire service and the community he has proudly served.

Few people are more passionate about being a firefighter and serving others than Chief Wood. His impact shows not only in the countless calls he has answered and the responsibilities entrusted to him, but also in the firefighters he has led, mentored, and served alongside throughout his career.

As his final shift on Thursday approaches, we look forward to recognizing Chief Wood’s service, celebrating his many contributions to HFD, and honoring the lasting mark he leaves on our department.
