Every older adult deserves to live with dignity, respect, and security. During Elder Abuse Awareness Month, PEADD joins the Administration for Community Living (ACL) and the National Center on Elder Abuse (NCEA) in raising awareness about elder abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation. World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) is observed each year on June 15, serving as a reminder that protecting older adults is a community responsibility. Elder abuse can take many forms, including physical, emotional, and financial abuse, as well as neglect. Recognizing the warning signs and staying connected with older adults can help prevent abuse and ensure they receive the support they deserve. The NCEA reminds us that connection is critical—strong social networks help create safer communities and reduce the risk of isolation and exploitation.
This month, we encourage everyone to:
💜 Check in on older family members, friends, and neighbors.
💜 Learn the signs of elder abuse and financial exploitation.
💜 Speak up if you suspect abuse or neglect.
💜 Help build a community where older adults can age safely and with dignity.
Together, we can promote elder justice and help ensure that every older adult is valued, respected, & protected.
