Reminder: Upcoming Training Opportunity:
Engine Company HAZMAT First Responder Ops
Open to all Fire and EMS Providers
Prerequisites: None

Course Description:
This class provides the opportunity to ascertain information to make sure the firefighting company is properly prepared and outfitted to handle a hazardous materials response in structural firefighting gear and SCBA.
Special emphasis is placed on hazardous materials incidents where there is a report of a viable victim in the hazardous atmosphere.
Emergency Decontamination measures will be
discussed with special consideration of only having your initial fire apparatus on the scene without a dedicated hazmat team yet on scene. This will not only include patient decontamination, but also firefighter decontamination.
The overall purpose of this class is to ensure firefighter safety during the initial moments of a hazardous materials incident.

KEY TOPICS:
• Ability to perform a risk assessment for a hazardous materials response as the initial arriving fire company.
• Basic chemical and physical properties with hands-on demonstration
• Ascertain necessary hazard information about a hazmat product utilizing the latest research methods that are user-friendly to us firefighters
• Determine if your structural firefighting turnout gear and SCBA are the appropriate PPE to keep you safe based on your research.
• Make a safe, risk-based decision on viable victim rescue in a hazardous materials atmosphere.
• Utilize common metering equipment found on most engine and truck companies to determine if your PPE is safe to make entry.
• Firefighter and victim decontamination considerations

In the event of a serious traumatic or medical emergency, the Hopedale Fire Department routinely relies on STAT MedEvac to safely transport patients to trauma centers, stroke centers, and burn centers.

Today, Matt Horton from STAT MedEvac taught a Landing Zone Safety class to help ensure the safety of responders, flight crews, and patients during air medical operations.

We appreciate the opportunity to train alongside our air medical partners and continue sharpening these critical skills. STAT MedEvac
