The department consists of the Town Marshal, 2 full time officers, 13 reserve officers, 5 dispatchers, and 1 animal control officer.

This Saturday, May 16th from 10:00 am-12:00 noon, you may register/re-register your golf cart/side by side at the police department. On new registrations …the vehicle needs to been seen. You must also have proof of insurance.

It’s $35 for a side by side…$25 for new golf cart registrations and $10 for renewals. Must be by check or money order, made out to the “Town of Hope”.

If you’ve previously registered a golf cart, you need to re-register it for 2026.

Southeastern Brown County in south central Indiana...
Bartholomew County in central Indiana...

* Until 1215 AM EDT.

* At 1152 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a
tornado was located 8 miles east of Nashville, or 9 miles west of
Columbus, moving east at 50 mph.

HAZARD...Tornado.

SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree
damage is likely.

* Locations impacted include...
Columbus, Hope, Elizabethtown, Hartsville, Clifford, Jonesville,
Newbern, Waymansville, Gnaw Bone, Grammer, Spurgeons Corner,
Azalia, and Stone Head.

This includes Interstate 65 between mile markers 57 and 73.

TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.

Representatives of W**d Man Lawn Care will be in town today soliciting. They have the proper permit and are ok to go door to door.

For those individuals who still need to renew/register their golf cart/side by side, there will be someone at the police department this Saturday morning from 1000-1200 to take care of it. No appointment necessary.

To renew, unless there have been changes to the machine, it will not be needed to see it.

For new registrations, please bring it to the PD to be inspected.

Just remember $10 to renew…$25 for a new golf cart registration and $35 to register a side by side…check or money order only…made out to the Town of Hope.

With weather finally normalizing, it’s nice enough to be riding your golf cart. Just a reminder to renew your registration to your 2026 sticker. It’s $10 if your golf cart has been previously registered or $25 if it’s a new registration. They’re available at the police department Monday thru Friday 8a-4p. Check or money order only…made out to the Town of Hope.

This morning the Town of Hope Police Department took delivery of this Army surplussed Bell 47 helicopter. We were able to secure through the DRMO program (Defense Reutilization and Marketing Offices) which provides surplussed military equipment to local agencies for no cost.

The helicopter will be used primarily for identifying parking violations throughout the town, especially those violators parked more than 6 inches from the curb, and those blocking fire hydrants.

We also hope this will be beneficial to many of the community events the town sponsors. We are thinking we can drop candy during Halloween, and candy canes on Christmas.
