Hiking isn’t just great exercise — it’s a great way to bond with your dog, explore new places together, and enjoy the outdoors side by side 🐾

And let’s be honest… it’s also the perfect way to get those zoomies out before they happen in your living room later!

When hiking with your pet:

💧 Bring plenty of water & treats to keep them hydrated and motivated.

🐶 All dogs must be on a leash, it's the law! Keeping your dog leashed helps protect wildlife, other hikers, and your pup too.

☀️ If the ground is too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws!

🗑 Bring waste bags! Cleaning up after your pet keeps the park clean. Leave nothing but paw prints 🐾

Here’s to happy trails, happy tails, and unforgettable adventures with your four-legged companion! 🌿

Happy Earth Day from us here at Jenny Jump State Forest! 🌎

Earth Day is celebrated annually to raise awareness about environmental protection, and to remind of us ways we can reduce our carbon footprint.

In honor of Earth Day, we encourage those who visit the parks to practice the Leave No Trace principles. The Leave No Trace principles provide a framework of minimum impact practices for those visiting the outdoors and partaking in outdoor activities. These principles can be applied anywhere, including your own backyard!

The 7 Leave No Trace principles are as follows:

🗓 Plan ahead and prepare. Know the rules and regulations of the area you are visiting.

⛺ Travel and camp on durable surfaces. Durable surfaces include marked trails, campsites, rocks, gravel, and dry grasses. Good campsites are found, not made.

🗑 Dispose of waste properly. All New Jersey State Parks are carry-in and carry-out.

🌿 Leave what you find. Leave rocks, plants, and other natural objects as you find them.

🔥 Minimize campfire impacts. Use established fire rings and grills where fires are permitted.

🦌 Respect wildlife. Observe wildlife from a distance and never feed them.

💚 Be considerate of others. Respect others and their experience of the outdoors. Loud noises, rowdy pets, and damaged habitats can take away from the experience of others.

More about the Leave No Trace principles can be found here: https://lnt.org/

As always, let's keep our parks and communities clean and green! ♻

As warmer weather approaches, it is essential to be aware that various tick species are prevalent in New Jersey. Active from April to October, these ticks often conceal themselves in tall grass, leaf piles, under decks and porches, and along wooded trails. When engaging in outdoor activities, it is crucial to take preventative measures to avoid ticks and the diseases they carry.

Here's what you can do to prevent ticks on your next park visit:
👕 Wear light colored clothing. It'll help make ticks stand out!
👖Tuck your pants into your socks and your shirt into your pants.
🚫 Apply tick repellent. Always read the label to ensure proper use.
🚶‍♀️ Conduct a thorough body check after spending time outdoors.
🚿 Shower within two hours of coming inside.
🐶 For pets, use tick preventatives such as collars and topicals. Check their fur, ears, armpits, belly and the base of their tail for any unwanted travelers.

What do to if a tick attaches itself to you or your pet:
⬆ Remove the tick with fine-tipped tweezers. Pull the tick straight up and out without twisting the tick.
🧼 Clean the area with soap and water.
👩‍⚕️ Consult your doctor if you begin to experience symptoms such as a fever, fatigue, joint pain, or a rash that looks like a bullseye.
