NOTICE

Update: 1:15 pm - the maintenance team is still working on the leak on Rex. We are working diligently to get this done. We are estimating it to be finished in approximately a hour. Thank you for your understanding.

Due to a leak on Rex, the water will be turned off at 10 am. This will ONLY affect Rex, mockingbird, twin oaks, browning, and camelia. We are estimating the water to be off approximately 2 hours. If you have any questions or concerns please call the office. Thank you for your understanding.

The City of Hooks, Texas is accepting applications for the position of Chief of Police.

The City of Hooks is seeking an experienced, professional, community-minded law enforcement leader to oversee the Hooks Police Department and provide leadership, direction, and public safety services to our community.

Chief of Police Responsibilities Include:
• Lead and supervise the Police Department
• Ensure effective law enforcement operations
• Develop and maintain positive community relationships
• Oversee department policies, training, and personnel
• Work closely with City leadership and other public safety agencies
• Promote professionalism, integrity, accountability, and community safety

Qualifications:
• Current Texas Peace Officer License
• Law enforcement supervisory/command experience preferred
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively with city officials, employees, and the public
• Must meet all applicable requirements for appointment as Chief of Police

Beginning Monday August 24, 2026 there will be a list of active warrants listed online. We will release a new or updated list of active warrants twice a month. If you make contact with the court clerk and take care of those warrants your name will be removed from the public list before the next list comes out.

Public Notice – Pets
August 17, 2026

City Ordinance 95.15 requires pet owners are to register their pet with the city yearly; you are also required to have your pet up to date on the rabies vaccination City ordinance 95.38.
Due to the overwhelming number of pets in the city, we are giving pet owners the opportunity to get up to date. We are allowing all owners from now until October 1st, 2026, to get registered and proper vaccinations. After that citations will be written to owners.
City Ordinance Dog running loose 95.01/95.19 has also been a problem. Be sure your pet is properly cared for and put in your yard. This is grounds for immediate citation and a constant issue among neighbors. Under Texas law, feeding a stray or feral animal establishes “custody,” which legally assigns responsibility for the animal’s health, safety, and welfare under Texas Penal Code Section 42.092 (Cruelty to Non-livestock Animals) and equivalent livestock statutes. Once you feed or control an animal, you can be held liable for its care or face abandonment/neglect charges if you stop providing for it.
