Burn Restriction Information

MASON COUNTY FIRE MARSHAL
Date: June 17, 1 PM

Given the recent heat wave and predicted weather patterns for the near future, the National Fire Danger Rating System (NFDRS) for Mason County will be elevated from “Low” to “Moderate” on Friday June 19th. In accordance with County policy and to be consistent with the Dept. of Natural Resources, effective 1201 AM on Friday June 19, 2026, Permitted Land Clearing and Residential Fires will be prohibited on all Mason County lands. Please note that Recreational Fires (I.E. campfires, cooking and pleasure fires in a concrete, rock or steel ring) are still allowed but will also be restricted once the NFDRS is elevated to the “High” level. Your cooperation in helping keep Mason County fire safe this fire season is appreciated

We appreciate the ability to train and collaborate with our neighboring districts. Independently, Hoodsport is always encouraging growth so we can be strong as a department but these partnerships make us stronger.

Over the last 3-4 weeks CMFE hosted a Firefighter 2 course for its members and others from surrounding Mason County and Kitsap County agencies.

Today, Saturday June 6, 2026... students participated in performing various skills to show proficiency and obtain their Firefighter 2 certification.

Topics and skills include: incident scene operations and management, understanding building materials and structural collapse and effects of fire, technical rescue & support, vehicle extrication, foam firefighting, basic fire origin and cause determination, maintenance and testing procedures and responsibilities, community risk reduction, fire alarm systems, and pre-incident surveys.

Central Mason is happy to provide this opportunity in advancement in education and skills to various members of the fire service, and has other courses currently in progress that students are attending.

Happy to report ALL students passed all their practicals today!🙌🏻

❤️❤️❤️This week is national EMT appreciation week❤️❤️❤️

To all those who put their time and heart into their education and their communities to be there on some of their hardest days...a sincere thank you. Mr. Rogers has a famous quote "Look for the helpers" when faced with hard or scary events, and you have chosen to be the helpers.
A special thank you to the helpers at Hoodsport Fire and EMS, for all that you are and all that you do!

One of our Fire Commissioners and Responder, Mark Fischer, participated in this program. It is truly a work of heart for these people, who are there for the families, helping them take the next steps after an event. As Chief Bakken pointed out during this graduation, Chaplains are never called because something good happened, and we are greatful to each and everyone of them who are willing to be there and support. Congratulations and THANK YOU!!

Last evening we held a graduation ceremony to celebrate the addition of nine new Mason County Fire Chaplains. The graduation concluded their completion of an eight-week Mason County Fire Chaplain Training Academy. Our newest Fire Chaplains will join our existing Fire Chaplain team to serve when needed throughout all of Mason County. Fire Chaplains respond to emergencies and traumatic incidents to help individuals and families to start the process of working through injury and loss. All of our Fire Chaplains are community volunteers that are driven by passion to help others in their time of need. They work side by side Mason County's Firefighters, EMT's and Paramedics to provide support and hope. Please join us in welcoming (pictured left to right) Mason County Fire Chaplain's Griff Woodford, Josh Schooler, Isaiah Archuleta, Lee Anne Martinez, Susie Burrows, Fire Chief Beau Bakken (academy lead), Annie Havens, and Mark Fischer. Not pictured, Laura Hill and Karl Nelson. Congratulations to all!

Please join us in congratulating our recent EMT graduates. They have dedicated 180 hours over the last 4 months in classes, in addition to study time, work, family time and everything else life throws at them, but they all successfully completed the course and will go on to finish their testing then supporting our community by volunteering with Hoodsport Fire and EMS. We are excited to have them as part of our family and our community.

Are you signing up for resident alerts and not sure which weather alerts to choose? 🌦️

Here’s a quick guide to help you decide:

🟢 Advisory
Lowest level of concern. These alerts let you know about conditions that may cause minor inconvenience (like fog, light snow, or minor flooding), but aren’t expected to be dangerous.

🟡 Watch
Be prepared. A watch means conditions are favorable for severe weather. It’s time to stay alert, review your plans, and be ready to act if things escalate.

🔴 Warning
Take action now. A warning means severe weather is happening or about to happen. This is your cue to seek shelter or follow emergency instructions immediately.

💡 So what should you sign up for?
For the best protection, we recommend enabling Warnings at a minimum—and consider adding Watches if you want more lead time to prepare.

Stay informed. Stay ready. Stay safe.

Yesterday we had the honor of celebrating 8 new firefighters that recently graduated from the Mason County Fire Academy! After 14 weeks of rigorous training, early mornings, late nights, and unwavering determination these recruits have now earned the title "Firefighter"

Their commitment to protecting and serving our community makes us incredibly proud. Our fire department is stronger and more capable than ever with these new firefighters on shift.

We also had the privilege of promoting Darrell Stanley to Captain! Darrell has been with us since our merge in 2021 and has shown continued dedication and leadership while a part of our department. Plus, he's always good for a dad joke when it's needed most!

Congratulations to all of you and thank you for your hard work, we are so proud of you!
