Even with a bit of rain in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area these past couple of days, our fire restrictions (no campfires) are still in place. Weather looks dry and sunny next week!

⚠️ Traffic Alert: State Highway 14 is experiencing hazardous driving conditions following the recent downpour. Multiple basketball-sized rocks have fallen onto the roadway. Please reduce your speed, exercise extreme caution, and stay alert for debris. Normally, rain equals falling rocks in our area. Drive safely!

We are very appreciative to the Student Conservation Association (SCA) crew we have hosted this field season in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area! They have accomplished a tremendous amount of on the ground work including:
*Fencing around the historic arch at Catherine Creek.
*Seed Collection for post prescribed fire restoration.
*Prep for fall prescribed fire.
*Fuels reduction work at Legacy Pine- cutting, piling and covering.
*Chipping of ponderosa pine to reduce beetle infestation potential.
*Replacing the Catherine Creek bridge.
Hard work made easier with Student Conservation Association!

Many thanks to our U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement team for being part of our community events!

The Wasco County Sheriff's Office was honored to team up with our law enforcement and emergency services partners today at Fred Meyer for the annual “Shop with a Hero” event!

Local students paired up with first responders to pick out school supplies, backpacks, and essentials to get ready for a successful school year. Seeing the smiles on these kids' faces is what it’s all about.

Thank you to The Salvation Army and The Dalles Lions Club for sponsoring and making this day possible! We also extend a huge thanks to Fred Meyer for hosting us and supporting our community year after year.

We are very honored to be recognized and thankful for our partnership with The Next Door Inc.!

We're proud to recognize the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area - U.S. Forest Service as The Next Door's Community Partner of the Year!

For more than 30 years, the Forest Service has helped connect local youth to the outdoors, meaningful work experiences, and future career opportunities. Partnering with The Next Door since 2009, the 8-week Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) has provided countless youth with valuable job experience while contributing to projects that support the health and maintenance of the Gorge’s breathtaking landscapes. Through hands-on projects like invasive plant removal, trail restoration, seed collection, and more, participants gain conservation experience working alongside the Forest Service's recreation specialists, botanists, and other experts.

For many participants, SYEP is more than a summer job. It's a chance to explore places they may have never experienced, develop a sense of belonging, take pride in helping maintain the scenic area they call home, and help strengthen the broader Gorge community.

We're incredibly grateful to the U.S. Forest Service for investing in local youth and helping inspire the next generation of environmental stewards. Congratulations and thank you for your partnership! 🌲💚
