Good morning Benzie County!

Brine operations will be wrapping up today and tomorrow as crews make final passes and verify road coverage throughout the county. A huge thank you to Great Lakes Chloride for getting everything completed smoothly and promptly this year.

Today, crews are out grading the final gravel roads, working on ditching and drainage issues, maintaining MDOT roadside parks, and repairing edge ruts along paved roads with skip loaders and dump trucks.

For the edge rut repairs, a dump truck spreads 23A gravel along the roadway edge while the skip loader wheel-packs the material and blades it smooth. It’s a quick-moving operation, and crews will be covering a lot of ground throughout the day.

Please keep an eye out for workers and equipment in your area and use caution when approaching active work zones.

We also have a Board Meeting today at 9:30 AM here at the Road Commission facility.

Have a great day and stay safe out there!

Good morning Benzie County, and happy Wednesday!

Crews continue staying busy across the county with graders, blade trucks, and pothole patchers all out improving gravel road conditions and keeping roads in shape. Brine operations are also continuing as weather allows.

We also have a ditching project underway on Lakewood Circle to help improve drainage in the area.

A reminder that the US-31 mill and fill project through Honor is scheduled to begin June 4th and wrap up June 5th. Traffic will be reduced to one lane with flaggers directing traffic through the work zone. Molon Excavating will be handling the project, and it should make for a much smoother ride through Honor once completed.

We also have a Board Meeting tomorrow at 9:30 AM here at the BCRC facility in Honor.

As always, please slow down and use caution around crews and equipment working throughout the county.

Stay safe out there!

Today we’re thinking about the families, friends, and coworkers of the two Michigan Department of Transportation workers who tragically lost their lives while working on the roadway.

This is a heartbreaking reminder that road workers put themselves just feet away from live traffic every single day to keep roads safe for the traveling public. Whether it’s road commissions, contractors, utility crews, or MDOT workers, everyone deserves to make it home at the end of the day.

Please slow down, stay alert, and give crews plenty of room to work.

Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this tragedy.

Good morning Benzie!

Crews are back out across the county today with graders, blade trucks, and pothole patchers continuing road maintenance and cleanup efforts. Brine trucks are also back out working as weather allows, helping improve gravel road conditions throughout the county.

Our underbody blade trucks actually serve a dual purpose, snow removal in the winter and smoothing gravel roads in the summer. The grader establishes the grade on the road, and the blade trucks help maintain that grade while smoothing the surface by following a specific blading pattern. This allows us to cover a large number of roads efficiently during brine preparation.

Work also continues on Bixler Road as BCRC and AJS excavating move forward with the culvert replacement and headwall removal project. Please continue to avoid the area and follow posted closures.

As always, please slow down and give crews and equipment plenty of room to work.

Stay safe out there and enjoy the sunshine while we have it!

Good afternoon Benzie, and happy Monday!

Crews are back out across the county today with two graders, multiple blade trucks, and a small tree crew is cleaning up storm damage. Our park crew is also out maintaining MDOT parks, while the sign crew continues replacing damaged and worn signs throughout the county.

Brine season has officially begun! Brine trucks will be working throughout the county over the next couple of weeks. Rain cut things short this afternoon, but crews plan to be back at it tomorrow, weather permitting.

As always, please slow down and watch for crews and equipment working along the roads.
