On this day in 1747, John Paul Jones, a Scottish-American naval hero of the and the "Father of the U.S. Navy," was born.

Jones is renowned for his naval victories against the British, which were instrumental in shaping the early identity and capabilities of the U.S. Navy.

During the Battle of Flamborough Head, Jones fought one of the bloodiest engagements in naval history. Although his own ship was burning and sinking, Jones would not accept the British demand for surrender, famously declaring, “I have not yet begun to fight!” Jones and his crew were victorious and ultimately captured the Serapis.

We are finally ready to announce Mary Martin's forever home! The winner of the drawing of the 2024 National Junior Doll was the National Vice Chairman Amanda Bowser Ellinger's mother, who decided that she was not interested in the entire collection. She knew that there was a NC Daughter who lovingly supported the project and wanted Mary Martin.

Mary Aker, Outgoing State Librarian of the North Carolina Society DAR, adamantly promoted the Mary Martin story book and personally purchased hundreds of voices for the drawing. She sold many of the books to help raise money. Her support has been integral in the success of the Mary Martin project.

Therefore, the winner decided that Mary Martin's forever home should be with Mary Aker! Mary is thrilled to take home Mary Martin and we are ecstatic that Mary Martin will stay in her home state of North Carolina.

Thank you again to the Mary Martin committee, to the NC Daughters for all of their enthusiasm and love for Mary Martin, and to State Regent Anna Choi for her support. We wish the 2025 National Junior Doll team the best of luck in their year ahead!
