Happy Quarter 2! 🥳 Before welcoming our SEEQers back to campus today, our teachers and staff spent yesterday in Professional Development to prep for an incredible quarter ahead.

To celebrate all the hard work of Quarter 1 and kick off Q2 on a delicious note, our amazing SEEQS families came together to surprise our team with an epic Teacher & Staff Appreciation lunch—a full taco, burrito, nacho, and salad bar complete with a beautiful hand-made banner!

At SEEQS, community is the soil in which we plant our seeds of learning. It goes far beyond our classrooms. It takes students, teachers, staff, families, neighbors, and community partners working together to help students thrive. Our 'ohana always shows up in big ways to support our staff, and that strong connection helps us all stay aligned in guiding SEEQers to become stewards of planet Earth. 🌏💚

Want to join our incredible family community next year? Come to our next Open House Info Session on Thursday, October 29th from 5:15 PM – 6:45 PM. Head to the link in our bio to RSVP today and see what makes our 'ohana so special!

At SEEQS, we don't do traditional P.E.—we start every Tuesday and Thursday with Physical Activity & PLAY! ⚽🏀🏈

Whether students need to shake off early morning energy or wake up their brains for the day ahead, starting our mornings with movement sets the stage for deeper academic focus all day long. Here’s why morning Physical Activity is one of the most special parts of our day:
🌿 Our Backyard: We’re so lucky to share green space right across the street at Kawanānakoa Community Park, giving our kids room to run, play, and connect outdoors!
🤝 Teacher-Led Connections: These groups are led by the same teachers who teach Math, Science, ELA, Social Studies, and Arts. Playing together builds authentic trust and sense of knowing.
💥 Endless Variety & Choice: Students pick a new activity every quarter based on student and staff interests! Beyond Soccer, Football, and Basketball, our quarterly rotations feature everything from MMA, Yoga, Gardening, and Pickleball to Hip Hop Dance, Poly Dance, Ultimate Frisbee, Capture the Flag, Ping Pong, and Hula Hooping!

By prioritizing movement, cross-grade connection, and joy first thing in the morning, we build a commUNITY where students genuinely want to be. 💚

Missed our last Open House? We’d love to welcome your ’ohana to our next one on Thursday, October 29th @ 5:15 PM! Come learn how SEEQS combines real-world academics, active play, and deep community to prepare middle schoolers for the future.

Quarter 1 is pau! 🥳 Off to fall break we go, but not before ending the quarter with one of our core SEEQS structures: Student-Led Conferences (SLCs)!

At SEEQS, we don't do traditional parent-teacher conferences. Held at the end of Quarters 1 and 3, SLCs bring families, advisors, and students together for reflection and goal setting, entirely run by the student.

Why Student-Led? By guiding the conversation and choosing the work exemplars that best define their progress, SEEQers:
🌟 Build real ownership and responsibility over their learning
🌟 Practice active self-reflection and self-advocacy
🌟 Measure their accomplishments against personal goals rather than outside expectations, a key step in becoming lifelong learners

To prepare, students write reflections on their strengths and goals, curate digital portfolios, and practice presenting. These conferences build directly toward our SEEQS Portfolio Defense, ensuring SEEQers grow in confidence year after year.

Mahalo to all our families who joined us to celebrate their students' hard work! Now, our SEEQers get to relax, recharge, and enjoy a well-deserved fall break! 🍂

Want to learn more about SEEQS’s approach to student reflection, agency, and authentic assessment? Come to our next Open House Info Session on Thursday, October 29th!

It’s the final week of Quarter 1, which means our classrooms are bustling as SEEQers finish up their final assessments of learning! 🎭📝

For our Theatre Arts students, an authentic assessment looks like taking center stage! Students collaborated in small groups to write, rehearse, and perform their very own original scenes, demonstrating their understanding of key storytelling elements in front of an invited audience of families and peers. 👏✨

Bravo to all of our performers! Next up for Quarter 2... Shakespeare! ⚔️📜

Did you know that SEEQS lunch and after school clubs are pitched, planned, and initiated by our students? 💡✨

At SEEQS, we believe middle schoolers should have real ownership over their learning and middle school experience. When a SEEQer has a passion they want to share, they find a staff supervisor, map out their club’s goals, and make it happen! Supported by our teachers, students build community, grow their leadership skills, and create spaces where everyone can have fun and connect.

Looking for a middle school where your student can step up as a leader, explore their interests, and help shape their experience? Come see our community in action!

At SEEQS, our students don't just follow the rules—they help write them.✏

One of the most unique parts of the SEEQS experience is Town Hall, a real democratic space where students and staff have an equal voice in how our school runs. It’s student voice, agency, and advocacy in action! 📣

Before each quarterly Town Hall, any student or teacher can draft a motion to propose a change. During the meeting, authors present their ideas, peers speak for or against the motion with reasoned arguments, and the entire room votes. Every student and teacher gets one equal vote, and a 2/3 majority passes the motion!

Here are a few real motions proposed and voted on by SEEQers: ✅ Ban single-use plastic drink containers on campus (Passed!) ✅ Start a committee to plan the school dance (Passed!) ✅ Add a long-sleeved shirt uniform option (Passed!) ✅ Allow gum chewing on campus (Not passed in 2019, but passed in 2022!)

By building transparency and real decision-making power into our school culture, SEEQers build confidence, learn how democratic social structures work, and grow into active, engaged citizens.

If that’s the kind of experience you’re looking for for your middle schooler, come learn more about SEEQS at our upcoming Open House Info Session on Tuesday, September 29 from 5:30–6:45 PM—or tag and share this post with a family who might be interested! RSVP through the link in our bio. 💚

WE DID IT! 🎉 WE MET OUR GOAL! 💚💚💚

Thanks to our amazing community, we officially raised over $6,100 for our EQS Camp Challenge! Every dollar raised keeps these field experiences 100% cost-free for our families.

Here are the highlights of Day 2 of EQS Camp:

🌊 EQS Ocean Conservation participated in conservation and restoration with Malama Maunalua at Kuliʻouʻou Beach Park.

⚡ EQS Energy got inspired by Punahou School green net-zero efforts and then conducted an energy audit at SEEQS.

🌿 EQS Learning Lāʻau dove into natural resource management and environmental education with the Malama Learning Center.

🍫 EQS ʻOno Origins visited a historic plantation and then the Wahiawa Value-Added Product Center to connect the history and present of local food production.

♻️ EQS Zero Waste explored different parts of the waste and consumer cycle with visits to H-Power, Waimanalo Gulch Sanitary Landfill, and Goodwill.

🏙️EQS City Evolution surveyed the changes of our own neighborhood, starting at Iolani Palace and making their way through Kaka‘ako.

Round 2 is right around the corner this January! ✨ Our annual field budget is $12,000+, so it’s not too late to help us keep the momentum going for Semester 2. Any additional gifts will go straight toward funding our January field experiences. Mahalo for fueling real-world learning for our students! www.seeqs.org/give
