Supporting children and families involved in the foster care system in Hawaii. We help kids!

FPH is a growing vibrant social service agency providing statewide services to almost 4,000 children and families involved in the child welfare system. We provide services to prevent children from entering foster care, support children and families already involved in the foster care system, and assist youth transitioning out of foster care. FPH seeks to create step-by-step comprehensive programs to serve the needs of these children and strengthen families to meet their needs

We're honored to share that Family Programs Hawaii is a 2026 Angels in Adoption® honoree! 💛

The Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI) recognized FPH for our work on behalf of Hawaiʻi's keiki and families. On September 29, 2026, FPH's President & CEO, La'akea Yoshida, accepted the honor for FPH in Washington, D.C., and carried FPH's story to Capitol Hill.

This honor reflects more than 20 years of work by our staff, volunteers, resource caregivers, partners, and supporters. It includes the siblings kept together at Hoʻomalu, the sibling visits through Project Visitation, the young people finding permanent families through Wendy's Wonderful Kids, and the families we walk alongside every day.

Mahalo to CCAI, to Senator Mazie K. Hirono for her warm letter of congratulations, and to every one of you who has been part of this work. This award belongs to all of us. 🌺

As we start planning our 28th Annual Holiday Party, we love connecting with our community partners like Locations. Locations Foundation is one of our long-standing sponsors and volunteer groups for both the Holiday Party and for Project Visitation. We couldn’t do what we love doing without partners like them!

What an awesome way to spend the weekend! Thanks to GSF Foundation, siblings separated by foster care got to enjoy this past Saturday with bowling, food, games, and lots of laughter together. We have wonderful news to share! Family Programs Hawaii has been selected as a 2026 Angels in Adoption honoree by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute.

The Angels in Adoption Program recognizes individuals and organizations that have made and continue to make extraordinary contributions in adoption, permanency, and child welfare. We are grateful to Senator Mazie Hirono for recommending Family Programs Hawaii for this national recognition.

For more than two decades, our staff and community partners have worked alongside children, youth, families, and resource caregivers across Hawaiʻi. This honor reflects that history of commitment and the shared work required to help families experience safety, healing, and lasting connection.

We are proud to represent Hawaiʻi among the 2026 honorees. Mahalo nui to everyone who has been part of this work.

A big mahalo to everyone who helped make this year’s Camp Connections such a meaningful experience for our sibling groups!

Project Visitation campers enjoyed a fun-filled weekend at Camp Mokuleia, creating lasting memories with brothers and sisters they are separated from due to foster care. From beach adventures and basketball to gaga ball, campfire s’mores, crab hunting, games, and crafting picture frames for their sibling photos, every activity celebrated the joy of being together.

One camper shared:
“The best part about camp was spending time with my friends and my brother!”

Yesterday, we were honored to be a part of hosting the 20th Annual ‘Ohana is Forever conference, themed “Seeing the Path Ahead with 20/20 Vision”. Amongst the learning and fun activities, the best part is always hearing youth in foster care and those with lived experience share their mana’o. Melody Jay, who was formerly in foster care and also a former employee at FPH, had great insight to share!

Congratulations to Elladine Olevao and Tonia Mahi for their well-deserved retirement! We are truly thankful for their many years of service at Child Welfare Services and their partnership with Family Programs Hawaii in making Hawaii a better and safer place for our keiki.
