To improve the State's interface with members of the le***an, gay, bisexual, transgender, q***r, plus community; identify the short- & long range needs of its members; and ensure that there is an effective means of researching, planning, & advocating... Hawaii State Le***an, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Q***r Plus Commission's Purpose: [From Chapter 369, Hawai‘i Revised Statutes] The legislature finds that there is a need to establish a body to improve the State's interface with members of the le***an, gay, bisexual, transgender, q***r, plus community; identify the short- and long range needs of its members; and ensure that there is an effective means of researching, planning, and advocating for the equity of this population in all aspects of state government. Accordingly, the purpose of this chapter is to establish a commission to provide for a statewide program, on a permanent and continuing basis, on the status of le***an, gay, bisexual, transgender, q***r, plus individuals in Hawai‘i. Hawai‘i State LGBTQ+ Commission Social Media Comment Policy

We encourage public interaction and communication about the content we post on our social media accounts. However, this does not imply that the Hawai‘i State LGBTQ+ Commission agrees with or accepts the content, opinions, or views expressed within any public comment. While we do not discriminate against views or opinions posted to our social networking accounts, we reserve the right to remove or not approve any comment. A comment will not be edited or modified to remove unacceptable content; the entire comment will simply be deleted. Some of the reasons we may remove or not approve a comment are listed below:

• Abusive, vulgar, obscene, racist, anti-LGBTQIA+, threatening, or harassing comments.
• Libel, slander, or personal attacks of any kind, including the use of offensive terms that target specific individuals, protected classes, or groups.
• Spam, including content that promotes products or services or contains gratuitous links (links or references to other State, County, & Federal government webpages or local & national LGBTQIA+ supportive non-profit organization sites are acceptable).
• Makes unsupported accusations.
• Comments that suggest or encourage illegal, dangerous, or destructive activity.
• Duplicate posts.
• Clearly off topic.
• Political campaigning.
• Comments that are looking for direct support or questions to be answered by the Hawai‘i State LGBTQ+ Commission or a specific Commissioner (for those, please contact the Commission via email at [email protected]). Repeated (defined as 3 or more in a 1-month period) comments that violate this policy may be cause for the user to be blocked. A user may appeal their blocking by submitting a request for a review via email and possible reversal, to Hawai‘i State LGBTQ+ Commission at [email protected]. The Hawai‘i State LGBTQ+ Commission is unable to post comments from children under the age of 13 due to the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you are 12 years old or younger, you may e-mail us rather than posting a comment. Moderating and posting comments should only be expected to occur during normal business hours. The Hawai‘i State LGBTQ+ Commission, administratively attached to the State of Hawai‘i’s Department of Human Services, uses various third-party social media services for outreach. Use of these social media services may require a membership that subjects users to policies, requirements, or rules beyond the control of the State of Hawai‘i’s Department of Human Services. The State of Hawai‘i’s Department of Human Services does not endorse membership in a particular social media service and takes no responsibility for any content that may be posted by other users. Communications made through social media services will not, in any way, constitute a legal or official notice to the Hawai‘i State LGBTQ+ Commission, the State of Hawai‘i’s Department of Human Services, State of Hawai‘i, or any of its entities, officials, or employees. Our National Coming Out Day Resource Fair may be canceled for tomorrow, but a little rain can’t dim our Pride. 🌈☔️

We’re disappointed we won’t get to gather, celebrate, and connect with everyone as planned, but the safety of our community comes first.

We’re working with our UH partners to see if there’s another date in October when we can come together. In the meantime, stay safe, stay proud, and know that our Pride will shine through any storm.

We are getting excited for our 38th Annual Talk Story Festival scheduled for this Friday, October 2 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Mission Memorial Auditorium!!

Free parking is available in the City’s Municipal Lot near Beretania and Alapa‘i streets after 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
