We are so grateful to Taco Bell Foundation and RBD Hawaiʻi for their generous $59,750 grant to Junior Achievement of Hawaiʻi!

Their continued support means so much to our team and to the students we serve. This gift helps us bring entrepreneurship and work readiness programs to students across Hawaiʻi, giving them opportunities to build skills, explore their futures, and believe in what they can achieve.

Taco Bell Foundation and RBD Hawaiʻi have supported JA Hawaiʻi time and again, and we don’t take that commitment for granted. It means so much to have partners who continue to show up for our students and invest in their potential.

LAUREATE SPOTLIGHT: SIG ZANE AND NĀLANI KANAKAʻOLE

In 1985, Sig Zane and Nālani
Kanakaʻole founded Sig Zane Designs with a mission to educate others, share cultural knowledge, and tell meaningful Hawaiian stories through art and design.

Recognized as 2018 JA Hawaiʻi Business Hall of Fame Laureates, the couple demonstrated how entrepreneurship can be deeply rooted in culture, purpose, and community.

Following Nālani’s passing earlier this year, we honor her extraordinary life and the lasting legacy she and Sig created together. Their influence continues through their family, their art, and the generations they have inspired.

What does it mean to do business in Hawaiʻi? 🌺

This week, 15 students from Ryukoku University in Japan explored that question through a week-long learning experience with UH Mānoa Outreach College.

A huge mahalo to Central Pacific Bank, whose team played a major role in bringing the experience to life. CPB team members shared their time, knowledge, and real-world perspectives with the students, helping them explore the importance of relationships, trust, communication, and supporting local businesses.

CPB also coordinated a visit with their client Diamond Bakery Co., Ltd., where students learned about the company’s long tradition of doing business in Hawaiʻi — and enjoyed some cookies along the way! 🍪

Today, students wrapped up the week by presenting their findings and comparing what they learned about business in Hawaiʻi with their experiences in Japan.

And they did it all in English! 👏 We were so impressed by their thoughtful presentations and willingness to step outside their comfort zones.

JA Hawaiʻi was grateful to play a small part in this experience.

Over the past few days, we’ve seen the strength of our Hawaiʻi community on full display.

Our hearts are with everyone affected by Hurricane Lala, especially the families, schools, businesses, and communities continuing to recover.

We’re grateful for the first responders, utility crews, educators, volunteers, neighbors, and countless others working tirelessly to help our islands recover.

At Junior Achievement of Hawaiʻi, we believe preparing young people for the future is about more than financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship. It’s also about building resilience, problem-solving, and the confidence to navigate life’s unexpected challenges.

Board Spotlight: Paul Gauci

At Junior Achievement of Hawaiʻi, we’re proud to have board members who are passionate about preparing the next generation for success.

Today we’re spotlighting Paul Gauci, AVP & Senior Wealth Advisor at First Hawaiian Bank, and Vice Chair and Incoming Chair of the JA Hawaiʻi Board of Directors.

As a financial advisor, Paul understands how life-changing financial education can be. Looking back on his own experiences, he believes every young person deserves the opportunity to learn the skills needed to make informed financial decisions and create opportunities for themselves.

One message from Paul especially resonated with us:

“Through Junior Achievement of Hawaiʻi, we can give students the knowledge, confidence, and financial skills they need to make smart choices, create opportunities for themselves, and build a brighter future.”

Paul’s advice to his high school self:

“Be curious, ask questions, and never stop learning. Seek out people you admire, learn from their experiences, and don’t be afraid to ask for guidance. The right mentor can help you see possibilities you never imagined and avoid lessons that otherwise take years to learn. Invest in yourself early, stay open to new opportunities, and remember that small steps taken consistently can lead to extraordinary results over time.”

Part-Time District Program Manager
📍 Hilo, Hawaiʻi Island

Are you passionate about education, building community connections, and helping Hawaiʻi’s young people succeed?

Junior Achievement of Hawaiʻi is looking for a Part-Time District Program Manager to help grow and support our programs across Hawaiʻi Island.

In this role, you’ll work directly with educators, volunteers, and local businesses to bring hands-on learning experiences in financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship to students from kindergarten through high school.

What you’ll do:
✔ Recruit, train, and support classroom volunteers
✔ Build relationships with educators across Hawaiʻi Island
✔ Coordinate JA programs and help ensure a great experience for teachers and volunteers
✔ Organize volunteer trainings and strengthen community partnerships
✔ Support occasional evening and weekend events

We’re looking for someone who:
• Lives within commuting distance of Hilo
• Enjoys building relationships and working with people
• Is organized, dependable, and comfortable managing multiple projects
• Has a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (preferred)

💼 Part-time
💲 $25,000–$30,000 per year
