Happy to honor Marvin Dang, constituent & former State Representative, on being named by NAPABA as one of seven recipients of the Daniel K. Inouye Trailblazer Award. This award recognizes the leadership of lawyers who have paved the way for the advancement of other attorneys.

Thanks Marvin for your service to the people of Hawaiʻi and for your work with American Bar Association including becoming the first Asian American attorney and first attorney from Hawaiʻi to serve as an officer with the organization.

After five public officials were indicted last week, we cannot afford to continue to make it this easy for government contractors to influence our leaders. Here’s how the Good Government Caucus is trying to take action—and how you can help.

This federal administration has ruthlessly gone after our country’s immigrants, a campaign that has torn apart families, splintered communities, and ended lives. (Note: the photo of the chairs around the rotunda mosaic represents immigrants and US citizens who have died in immigration enforcement activity since the Trump administration began its crackdown.)

Enough is enough. This week, I was proud to celebrate the passage of five bills that we hope will protect our community:
SB 2057 Relating to Law Enforcement
HB 1870 Relating to Protected Community Locations.
HB 1838 Relating to Visas
HB 1839 Relating to Immigration
HB 1548 Relating to Sentencing

Thank you to my colleagues who introduced these bills, the governor who signed them, and ALL the advocates who testified, called, organized, and got the job done. 👊🏽

Join the Good Government Caucus on Zoom or in-person this Thursday, July 30 at 1 PM as we call for a special session.

In light of seeing five public officials indicted last Friday, we need to pass SB 2350. This legislation would end the so-called contractor loophole and ban state contractors from contributing to political campaigns.

What a pleasure it was to honor Honolulu Zoological Society & their 40th anniversary of the Wildest Show in town. This family-friendly summer show features local artists & brings families, neighbors, friends together for summer evenings at the zoo.

Kudos to Shelby who has been coordinating this event for several years including the pandemic where this show was produced virtually for not just Hawaii residents but for the world to enjoy. Shout out also to Mary & Alan for their Honolulu Zoological Society leadership & support.

On Saturday, I was honored to join community and government leaders at the Hilton Hawaiian Village to celebrate the 128th Anniversary of Philippine Independence.

Hawaiʻi’s Filipino community has contributed so much to the life, culture, and strength of our islands, and it was meaningful to come together in celebration of that history, resilience, and deep sense of community.

Mahalo to Philippine Consul General Arman Talbo and his team for organizing such a special celebration. Mahalo also to my colleagues Senator Rachelle Lamasao, Senator Joy San Buenaventura, and Council member Tyler Dos Santos-Tam for allowing me to be part of the certificate presentations.

Vibrant Hawaiʻi wrapped their 2026 annual training conference & I was glad to make it out to University of Hawaii-Hilo to learn & observe.

Attendance from across the state including teams like was great. Because we know government may and will not be able to respond immediately to all communities in times of emergency, this kind of community training is crucial.

Thank you to the many communities, Vibrant Hawaiʻi Hawaiʻi Community Foundation Hawaii Emergency Management for modeling & leading the way in community resiliency.

These are the leaders everyday who weave & create the resiliency of our communities. My apologies for the over 3 minute reel (which IG reminded me is not a good thing to post). Frankly, I don’t care. These communities & their leaders need to be recognized & celebrated by everyone & all our elected officials in Hawaii.

Mahalo Vibrant Hawaiʻi Hawaiʻi Community Foundation for supporting, building, & nurturing this leadership network & making all of our communities stronger through this work.
