Taking to the skies to serve our neighbors on Hawai‘i Island 🚁

The day after Hurricane Lala, stepped up by donating a flight from Honolulu to Kona. Their quick response allowed our teams to deliver emergency cleaning kits directly to families in Kaʻū when they needed them most.

And they didn’t stop there. They donated a second relief flight just yesterday!

Hurricane Lala update: The storm has passed, but for hundreds of families across our islands, the hardest work is just beginning.

The Salvation Army is on the ground providing immediate relief, hot meals, cleaning supplies, and direct financial support to survivors rebuilding their lives.

In the first 48 hours of our disaster response, we served nearly 700 meals to people sheltering on Hawai'i Island and Maui and to personnel staffing the State Emergency Operations Center and Joint Operations Center on O’ahu. And we’re continuing meal service as long as needed in coordination with local government and community organizations.

Because we are rooted in these communities, we stay long after the storm clears to walk alongside our neighbors through recovery. But we cannot do it alone.

Equipping island keiki for a bright school year ahead!

As local students head back to the classroom, we want to send a heartfelt mahalo to every donor, volunteer, and partner who supported our back-to-school drives across the islands!

Thanks to your generosity through programs like Stuff The Bus at Walmart, Adopt a Backpack on Maui, and local school supply drives statewide, hundreds of keiki are walking into their first day with brand-new backpacks, essential supplies, and the confidence to succeed ❤️

Sunday morning coffee and breakfast for Hawaii County first responders working hard to contain the fire in South Kohala. We’re honored to serve you!

Serving Those Who Serve

This morning, our Honokaʻa Corps had the privilege of serving breakfast to the firefighters working tirelessly on the South Kohala wildfire near Kawaihae. As crews continue to battle the fire and protect homes and lives, we wanted them to know their community is standing behind them. The wildfire has prompted evacuations in Kawaihae Village, and emergency responders remain hard at work.

A special thank you to Captain Joy Groenleer, Corps Officer of the Honokaʻa Corps, for leading this effort, along with our dedicated staff and volunteers who prepared and delivered breakfast, fresh fruit, drinks, water, and coffee to the front lines.

We are grateful for the courage, sacrifice, and long hours of our Hawaiʻi County firefighters and all first responders. Please continue to keep them, those affected by the fire, and everyone working in the emergency response in your thoughts and prayers.

After an incredible 59-year career with The Salvation Army, Jennie Ing retired in 2019. But her dedication to serving others didn't stop there! ️

Known affectionately as “Ms. Salvation Army” by her family, Aunty Jennie and her husband Clarence now volunteer their time at our Kauluwela Mission Corps. Whether she is bringing smiles to clients at the Wednesday food pantry or packing weekend meals for more than 360 elementary school students, her joy for giving back is truly contagious.
