It was a rainy, but fun morning as we helped to cheer on Castle students during their on-campus homecoming parade. I was joined by a couple of my 1998 classmates, as well as other alumni from various decades. The students have been celebrating homecoming with a spirit week, golf cart decorating contest, parade, and class contest/assembly. Tonight, Castle plays Kaiser for their homecoming game, and tomorrow the students celebrate with an on-campus homecoming dance. It's always great to be back on campus to support my alma mater. Go Knights!

Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to attend the Koʻolaupoko Hawaiian Civic Club's annual luncheon. It was great to connect with many community members, as well as help to recognize outstanding individuals for their service to our Windward community, as well as the organization. Congratulations to Wali Camvel (cultural practitioner and educator), Rainbow Auliʻi and KEY Project, and Emma Panui Snakenburg and the Hawaiʻi State Library System, Kāneʻohe Branch for being recognized with the Kū i Ke Kamaʻāina Award. Congratulations also to John Fleckles for receiving the Helen C. Kāne President's Award for his outstanding service to the Civic Club.

The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation (HDOT) is developing the Kamehameha Highway Long-Range Coastal Resilience Study (KHRS), which spans the coastal corridor from Kualoa to Hau‘ula along Kamehameha Highway within the Ko‘olauloa moku of O‘ahu. The study area, which begins at Kualoa Regional Beach Park and ends at Hauʻula Beach, after Hauʻula Homestead Rd. (West), includes six ahupuaʻa – Kualoa, Kaʻaʻawa, Kahana, Punaluʻu, Kaluanui, and Hauʻula. The KHRS focuses on evaluating potential adaptation scenarios for sea level rise along the corridor for long-term planning from now to 2100. The study will examine the latest climate science, transportation, and environmental conditions while engaging the community and stakeholders on the future of the highway along this coastline. There will be a Community Open House on Thursday, September 24th from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Hauʻula Elementary School for community members to learn more about the project and share their thoughts.

On Sunday, Representative Matayoshi and I are sponsoring a FREE legal clinic in collaboration with the Hawaiʻi State Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division. Members of the Windward Community are invited to attend a free pop-up legal clinic on Sunday, August 30th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at Windward Mall, second floor of the Target wing. Local volunteer attorneys will answer questions, offer general legal information, and provide resources on a variety of topics from family law, estate planning, and more. All volunteers are licensed to practice law in Hawaiʻi. Services provided at this clinic do NOT automatically create an attorney-client relationship with any of our volunteers.
