Emergency food distribution tomorrow, open to everyone who needs it.

Monday, August 17, 8 AM to 3 PM at both Food Basket warehouses. No sign up and no list.

Hilo warehouse, 40 Holomua St
Kona warehouse, 73-4161 Ulu Wini Pl, Kailua-Kona

Lala hit our island hard, and closed roads are still keeping us out of some communities. We are Hawaiʻi Island's food bank. Until those roads open and our trucks can get in safely, food moves from both warehouses. The moment that changes, we will post community locations and times right here.

For road status, call Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense at (808) 935-0031.

I enjoyed spending time on Saturday with HSTA and our dedicated teachers, sharing how the legislative process works and discussing ways they can engage in advocacy.

Teachers bring invaluable firsthand experience to the policymaking process. Their voices help legislators better understand what our schools, students, and educators need to thrive. Mahalo to everyone who participated, asked thoughtful questions, and continues to advocate for public education in Hawaiʻi.

Today, as we commemorate our nation’s independence, I’m reflecting on the enduring principles that continue to guide our democracy.

The Constitution protects our freedoms, upholds the rule of law, and reminds us that democracy is strengthened when we each live with integrity, aloha, and a sense of kuleana to one another.

I hope today offers an opportunity to gather with family and friends, reflect on these values, and recommit ourselves to serving our communities and building a brighter future for the next generation.

Wishing everyone a safe Fourth of July. 🇺🇸

On Friday, another legislative session officially came to a close, and I’m incredibly grateful for the people who made it possible.

To my staff — Cassie, Nanea, Kyung, Luke, and Clare — mahalo for the long hours, late nights, problem solving, laughter, flexibility, and heart you brought to this work every single day. So much of what happens at the Capitol is powered by dedicated staff working behind the scenes, and I could not do this work without this incredible team.

This session, we worked hard to move forward priorities for our communities — from food security and biosecurity, to economic opportunity, and support for Native Hawaiians and local families. We were also proud to support the work of our House Majority Caucus and help move forward priorities that serve communities across Hawaiʻi.

Session may be over, but the work continues. I’m deeply humbled and grateful for this team, and for everyone who continues to believe in public service and showing up for our communities.

Conference Committee is here
and we’re ready!

In Hawaiʻi, conference is where House and Senate members come together to reconcile differences between our bills and reach agreement on final versions before session ends. It’s one of the most important parts of the legislative process, where collaboration, negotiation, and hard decisions shape the policies that move forward for our communities.

Looking forward to working with colleagues in both chambers to deliver meaningful results for our districts and our Hawaiʻi. Let’s get to work.

Happy Conference!

It is always a good day when Rep. Shirley Templo and I show up in sync—same vibe, same energy, and the same commitment to doing the work for our communities.

In the middle of long days and big decisions, moments like this remind me how important it is to stay connected, support one another, and find a little joy along the way. 💚
