The Hondo Police Department consists of 27 employees who "Protect and Serve God's Country" 365 days a year and available 24 hours a day. The ranks include the Chief of Police, Lieutenant, Detective Sergeant, 3 Investigators, 3 Patrol Corporals, 11 Patrol Officers (1 being a K-9 Officer), 2 School Resource Officers, 2 Police Clerks, 1 Case Analyst (commissioned Peace Officer), and 2 Animal Control

We, in the Hondo Police Department, are dedicated to:

1) Provide police service to the citizens of Hondo in the most effective and efficient manner possible;
2) Provide police services courteously, ethically, honestly, progressively and professionally;
3) Provide the delivery of police services based on the Constitution of the United Sates, the laws of the State of Texas, Medina County and the Charter of the City of Hondo;
4) Provide police services in order to enhance and sustain the quality of life in an equitable manner, always remembering we are public servants. IF YOU HAVE AN EMERGENCY PLEASE CALL 9-1-1. POST / COMMENT REMOVAL POLICY
The Hondo Police Department’s Facebook fan page was created by the department to facilitate the exchange of information with the public at large. To promote such exchange the department encourages and welcomes postings and comments from the general public about issues related to law enforcement in Hondo. With that said, however, the police department reserves the right to regulate the content of, and where necessary delete completely, any objectionable entry that appears on its fan page. The Hondo Police Department is responsible for monitoring all postings to its page and may take appropriate action whenever necessary, and at its sole discretion, to protect other fan page visitors from inappropriate or otherwise harmful information and links. To that end, the Hondo Police Department will remove as soon as feasible any posting that involves:
• Advertisements of any kind.
• Profane language or content.
• Content that promotes, fosters, or perpetuates discrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, age, religion, gender, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, national origin, physical or mental disability, or sexual orientation.
• Explicit or implied sexual content.
• Conduct implying, promoting, or encouraging illegal activity.
• Information that might compromise the safety or security of the public.
• Any other posting that, by its nature or content, might harm public welfare.

We have issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until midnight tonight for most of South-Central Texas. Thunderstorms could produce hail up to two inches in size, wind gusts up to 75 mph, and an isolated tornado.

Registration has opened!

Reminder it is a first come, first served basis. Please bring your two forms of address verification (DL, Utility bill....).

Forms of payment accepted include card and cash, exact change preferred.

On April 30, 2026, Medina County Dispatch received a call reporting an RV fire in the 200 block of 173 South. The Hondo Police Department, Medina County Sheriff's Office, and emergency personnel responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, officers with the Hondo Police Department identified a possible suspect in connection with the fire. Manuel Sanchez, 32, was detained and subsequently arrested at the scene.

During the investigation, deputies with the Medina County Sheriff’s Office discovered a victim inside the RV who was later pronounced deceased. The victim has been identified as 70-year-old Jose Romeo Ybarra.

Sanchez was initially booked into the Medina County Jail on the following charges:

Harassment of a Public Servant – $25,000 surety bond
Interference with Public Duties – $2,500 surety bond
Obstruction or Retaliation – $25,000 surety bond

Following the development of additional evidence, Sanchez was formally charged with:

Murder – $500,000 surety bond
Arson Causing Bodily Injury/Death – $500,000 surety bond

This investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed as more information becomes available.

Sign ups for the 50% off city sponsored spay/neuter event will be on May 8th, 2026 at 8:30am at the Hondo Police Station, 1030 Avenue Y, Hondo, TX.

We have a limited number of spots available, and they will be on a first come, first served basis. The actual procedures will take place during the month of June at the Hondo Veterinary Clinic.

The siren right now in town is part of monthly testing.

Testing is the first Friday of every month at noon.

Update. As of 5pm roadway is open

Stations 10 from Castroville and 60 from Hondo are currently working a major accident on Highway 90 westbound. Near private rd 4620. Westbound lanes are closed. Expect traffic to be delayed in the area both directions for several hours.  We would encourage no photos from passerby’s or public descriptions of vehicles be added to this post out of respect for those affected.
