🚨Public Reminder 🚨
Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park does NOT take in wildlife of any kind from the public. We are NOT a public rehabilitation facility. If you find wildlife that is in need of assistance, please contact a local wildlife rehabilitation facility via FWC’s website.

On one day this week, well intending citizens brought us a fledgling bird in a planter liner and one very angry diamondback rattlesnake in a bucket. For the safety of humans and animals, please contact professionals before moving wildlife.

Florida Park Service District 2 Volunteer of the Year, Protection:
Bob Hastings

Bob Hastings has been a committed volunteer at Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park since 2016, and honestly he’s become one of those people you just know you can rely on without even thinking twice. He mainly volunteers as a Tram Driver, but he also serves as our “Substitute” driver, meaning he’s the first person we call when a shift suddenly needs covered or someone can’t make it in. Most of the time he says yes without hesitation, even when it’s last minute, because helping the park and keeping visitors safe really matters to him. Bob has developed a strong working relationship with the entire tram team and with staff across the park, and he’s built this reputation for being calm, steady, and just incredibly dependable. His driving skills are excellent and he takes visitor safety seriously, making sure people load and unload safely and understand the rules before the tram ever moves. He knows the route, the system, and the quirks of the trams like the back of his hand, and his personality puts both visitors and staff at ease. Even though the tram program can get stressful on busy days, Bob handles it with a good attitude and a “we’ll figure it out” kind of spirit that keeps things running smooth. His years of service, the hours he’s put in, and the way he supports both the public and the staff make him an invaluable part of our protection and safety operations at the park.

Thank you Bob for all you do and congratulations on your award!

Florida Park Service District 2 Volunteer of the Year, Visitor Services:
David Brown

For more than eight years, David Brown has been a committed volunteer at Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park, giving hundreds of hours of service across multiple parts of Visitor Services. He leads a team of Information Station volunteers, training them and helping them feel confident and supported as they learn the ropes. David also volunteers several days a week in the administration office, where he assists staff with phones, paperwork, and general operations, and he’s known for being steady, organized, and extremely knowledgeable. He truly has an impressive amount of knowledge about the park, its history, wildlife, programs, visitor flow, you name it, and he shares that knowledge freely with both staff and volunteers. Personally, he’s kind, dependable, and always willing to step in without being asked. In addition to all this, David serves as the Vice President of the Friends of Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park, where he supports planning, events, and communication between the CSO and park staff. He doesn’t seek recognition for all his hard work, but his years of service and the way he treats people, staff and visitors alike, make him a true standout volunteer in every area.

Thank you for all you do, Dave, and congratulations on your award!
