The Homewood Police Foundation's raises funds for the Homewood Police Department, including its community programs, training, equipment, and the needs and welfare of its officers. The idea for the Homewood Police Foundation grew out of a deep respect and appreciation we all shared for what our officers do every day. We recognized there needed to be a way for both corporate and private citizens to
have an active role in supporting the men and women who protect and serve our community — from helping with education programs and events to providing extended training these officers need to meet our world's ever-changing law enforcement challenges. This not only helps foster a stronger partnership between the department and the community, it also creates a positive environment that attracts the best and brightest in the future. We established an Advisory Board, consisting of the Chief of Police, the Superintendent of Homewood City Schools, The Mayor of Homewood, a State Senator, Chief Municipal Judge and the Chamber of Commerce President. The Homewood Police Foundation's purpose is to raise funds for the Homewood Police Department, including its community programs, training, equipment needs and benevolence funds. We also endeavor to work with other foundations and community groups to ensure officers throughout Alabama receive the support they need. The Foundation is not meant to replace the yearly budget allotted to the department, but to supplement those efforts when an unexpected need arises. The organization is also committed to raising awareness among the community of what the Homewood Police Department does and strengthen the relationship between citizens and officers. Programs and events we already support include, The K9 Program, National Night Out, Training, raising funds for equipment, Benevolence Fund, Needs for Injured Officers, Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, and any unexpected financial need we are asked to help secure.
