The Homewood Police Department serves the Village of Homewood, Illinois, a suburb located 25 miles south of Chicago’s Loop. The Homewood Police Department is responsible for the enforcement of all state laws and most municipal laws (ordinances) in the Village. Services provided by the Department include routine preventive patrol, crime and accident investigations, animal control, traffic/parking e

nforcement and community policing functions. The Homewood Police Department follows all mandates as recognized by the Department of Justice and the Illinois Training and Standards Board. As an organization, the Homewood Police Department continuously trains and changes policies as incidents occur, and laws change. The Lexipol Policy System that is utilized automatically changes policies when laws and mandate are updated. This system affords the continual training that makes every Homewood Police Officer reach our state-mandated training and department goals. The mission of the Homewood Police Department is to work in partnership with the community to promote open communication, education, cooperation and fair and equal treatment, to improve the quality of life, promote unity, encourage respect and make Homewood a safe community. 2400 block of 175th Street / Homicide Investigation - Gunshot Victim

June 8, 2026

Homewood, Ill. – On Monday, June 8, 2026, developments in the homicide investigation led members of the Homewood Police Department and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force to a residence in the 17600 block of Dixie Highway. A search warrant was obtained for the residence, and the assistance of the South Suburban Emergency Response Team (SSERT) was requested.

At approximately 6:10 p.m., the search warrant was executed at the residence by SSERT. Officers made multiple announcements over the loudspeaker for anyone in the residence to step out with their hands up. Those announcements went unanswered and entry was made into the house.

Upon searching the house, officers located a deceased subject in a bedroom with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Illinois State Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner were contacted to assist in the investigation. The identity of the deceased individual is being withheld pending notification to the family. There is no additional information available at this time pending the results of the autopsy.

Homewood, Ill. – June 6, 2026 – On Saturday, June 6, 2026 at approximately 1:43 p.m., Homewood Police Department officers responded to a residence in the 2400 block of 175th Street for an unresponsive female. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased female inside the residence with an apparent gunshot wound. The Homewood Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit is conducting an investigation with the assistance of the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force.

Based on the facts and information gathered thus far, investigators believe this to be an isolated incident, and there is no known threat to the public at this time.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Homewood, Ill. – On May 27, 2026, at approximately 5:44 p.m., the Homewood Police Department was contacted to investigate a missing person report. Initial information indicated a father was concerned about the well-being of his 17-year-old son, who was last known to be in the area of the Homewood Izaak Walton Preserve. The Homewood Police Department began a search of the area in an attempt to locate the missing person. Officers utilized a drone and a K-9 unit from the Country Club Hills Police Department to assist in the search due to the expansive area and dense tree coverage. During the search, at approximately 7:29 p.m., the juvenile was located unconscious. The Homewood Police Department attempted lifesaving measures but was unable to revive the juvenile. The Homewood Fire Department arrived on scene and confirmed the juvenile was deceased.

The Homewood Police Department, the Illinois State Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office began conducting a death investigation. The cause and manner of death is pending autopsy and toxicology results. There is no indication of any danger to the community as it pertains to this case. The investigation is still ongoing, with no further information available at this time.
