The 2024 Banks County property tax bills have been mailed. Here are a few facts regarding this yearโs property taxes:
1. The due date is December 2nd, 2024 (December 1st falls on a Sunday)
2. We always mail you a tax bill, even if you have an escrow that pays your taxes. Please forward the bill to your mortgage company to ensure they pay the correct parcel and amount.
3. If you sold a property during the year, please forward the tax bill to the new owner or give our office a call 706.677.6204
4. Banks County has a school tax exemption at age 65, but it does not eliminate all school taxes. If you're over 65, you still will likely have school taxes on your tax bill. This exemption does save you $394.08 based on this yearโs millage rate.
5. You can't appeal your value now. That deadline was back in June. Your bill should be lower than your assessment notice since the millage rate was lowered to 19.704
6. Partial payments are accepted.
7. The homestead tax break we received last year was a one time tax reduction that was not renewed this year. This break saved most homeowners $366 dollars in 2023.
