SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE -- 6/17/2026

We are continuing to watch the potential for severe weather. The forecast has adjusted quite a bit from this morning, but an ENHANCED RISK (3 of 5) continues, for portions of western and southwest Ohio, with a majority of Ohio remaining under a SLIGHT RISK (2 of 5).

Scattered to numerous storms will move through the region into the overnight hours. Before we see these storms, widespread rain will move into the region, with some isolated storms developing ahead of it. Once we get the stronger storms moved in, we are watching the concern for all severe weather modes, with the main risk being damaging winds. A few tornadoes and some isolated hail will be a concern as well.

We are looking at a 9 PM-5AM timeframe for severe thunderstorms to move through the region.

✅Have multiple ways to receive severe weather warnings
✅Have that weather radio on alert mode
✅Know your severe weather safety plan and where to go in case you need to take shelter.

We are monitoring this closely.

Something to keep an eye on…

⚠️ SIGNIFICANT SEVERE WEATHER EVENT ON THE TABLE FOR WEDNESDAY ⚠️

Wednesday evening into the overnight hours is shaping up to be a potentially high‑impact event for our region. The ingredients are lining up in a way that strongly supports widespread damaging winds and the potential for several tornadoes.

🌀 THE SETUP IS CONCERNING:

-A strong low pressure to our north
-Surging warmth + rising dew points
-A powerful 70+ kt 850mb jet
-A sharp cold front providing intense forcing

This combination creates an environment where large, powerful updrafts can develop — the kind that support destructive wind potential and embedded tornadoes.

💨 WHAT WE’RE TALKING ABOUT:
A good portion of the region could see damaging to destructive winds, potentially up to 80 mph in the strongest segments.
Within the line, several embedded tornadoes are possible, along with torrential downpours that may trigger flash flooding.

🌧️ OVERNIGHT COMPLEXES DON’T DIE OUT
Uncertainty increases as the system pushes east later at night, but historically, these types of storm complexes hold their strength well into the overnight hours — and sometimes intensify.

⏰ A NOTABLE SHIFT: EARLIER TIMING
Guidance has shifted earlier since yesterday, and that’s a big deal.
Earlier arrival = more instability, more moisture, and higher impact potential. Current timing suggests between 7pm - 4am
If trends continue, risk upgrades will be needed.

⚠️ Wednesday PM has the makings for another severe outbreak across the lower Great Lakes into the Ohio Valley. An additional upgrade will be likely later tonight or tomorrow morning as we evaluate the greatest damaging wind / tornado risk!

Sunday afternoon could get a little bumpy as the next cold front moves through. Storms are forecast to develop along the front as it moves southeastward.

A few storms could become intense and may produce severe wind gusts. The greater risk for severe weather is expected mainly east of the I-71 corridor.

The timeframe for the storms looks to be between 1 to 7pm.
